Sales Engineer

Job description

## **ABOUT CLEARLY AI** Most security teams review what they can, triaging a backlog by urgency and headcount while products ship without review. Clearly AI is the continuous threat modeling platform that gives security, privacy, and GRC teams the capacity to cover more, with accurate, source-cited assessments that enterprise teams trust. We're live with Fortune 500s and global brands including Rivian, Ericsson, HID Global, PayPal, and others. We've reviewed thousands of security-critical products, from badge scanners to stablecoin platforms to autonomous driving features. Backed by Y Combinator, Basis Set Ventures, Crosspoint Capital, Argon Ventures, and Ritual Capital. Selected as a Top 10 Finalist for the RSAC 2026 Innovation Sandbox Contest. Advised by former CISOs of Disney, Costco, Amplitude, Chevron, the former CEO of Reddit, and the former CPO of Brex. We are early. We are deeply technical. We are building alongside real practitioners, and we want a real practitioner who can stand in front of our buyers and be believed. ## **Location** Seattle/SF preferred, remote OK. We meet in person 1-2x per quarter. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future. ## **Why this role exists** Our buyers are security, AppSec, GRC, and privacy leaders at Fortune 500s who will stress-test the product and then stress-test us. They need someone who can: - Understand how their reviews actually run across threat modeling, privacy, and vendor risk - Demo Clearly AI against their own artifacts and processes, not a generic sandbox - Design and run proofs of value against written success criteria - Answer architecture and data-handling questions live, in front of people who will check the answer This role exists to own the technical case, paired with Sales, who runs the deal. ## **What you'll own** **1. Technical discovery and demos** - Go deep on how a prospect runs reviews today, and spot which part will break before they do - Push on the stated request to find the real goal. Often the right answer is smaller than what they asked for - Build demos on their own use case and artifacts, not a generic sandbox **2. Proof of value** - Turn vague asks like "less effort" or "reasonable quality" into criteria a POV can pass or fail - Stand up tenants, load their knowledge, queue historical and live cases - Run the midpoint check and the technical readout against what the customer signed **3. The technical conversation** - Own the architecture questions that decide enterprise deals: tenancy and data isolation, SSO/SAML/SCIM, deployment patterns, model providers, data residency, audit defensibility - Answer accuracy and hallucination objections with evidence, and carry our security posture through their vendor review - Explain honestly where we fit against threat modeling tools, scanners, GRC platforms, and building it in-house **4. The reusable layer** - Turn evaluation friction into specific, reproducible feedback for engineering - Build the demo environments, POV templates, and technical answers the team can use without you ## **What this role is not** - Not our Forward Deployed Security Engineer role; you hand off at signature rather than running production onboarding - Not a product management role - Not a role where you read someone else's demo script ## **What we're looking for** **Required** - 5+ years either running security and privacy reviews for large enterprises, or in a sales engineering, solutions architecture, or technical pre-sales role selling to security teams - Command of enterprise security architecture: tenancy and data isolation, data residency, AI governance - Ability to speak the language of security practitioners (STRIDE, DPIA, TPRM, CVE, SSDLC) - Experience running a multi-week technical engagement to a deadline without it drifting - Familiarity with Jira, ServiceNow, GitHub, Confluence, or OneTrust, and how review workflows live inside them - Clear writing. Success criteria, test plans, and readouts are the deliverables here **Strongly preferred** - Hands-on experience with threat modeling, privacy impact assessments, or vendor risk assessments - Working knowledge of enterprise identity and deployment plumbing: SSO/SAML/SCIM, IP allowlisting, model providers - Experience working in early-stage startups You do not need to have carried a quota or held a sales title. If this role fits you and you don't check every box, tell us what you'd bring instead. ## **How success is measured (first 12 months)** - POVs passing against criteria you wrote - Technical objections resolved in the room rather than escalated - Time to run a full technical evaluation without a founder present - Demo environments, templates, and answers the team uses every week ## **Why join Clearly AI** - Build the technical function from the ground up, with the team that follows built around what you establish - See your impact directly in the product, and in the customers we win - Join an RSAC 2026 Innovation Sandbox Top 10 Finalist backed by $8.4M in seed funding - YC alum with proven, technical founders and strong growth momentum with minimal funding taken to date - Competitive salary, equity, and benefits Salary ranges are a guideline; actual base salary may vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process, and the ranges for this role may be modified. In addition, compensation packages may include additional components such as equity and benefits. Benefits may vary based on role, country, and local regulations.
