Job description
Pocket FM is the world's largest audio-series platform, where powerful stories travel effortlessly across languages, cultures, and continents. From India and the US to Europe and beyond, we're redefining how stories are created, discovered, and experienced across the globe. With one of the largest creator ecosystems in entertainment, Pocket FM is home to millions of listeners and an ever-growing catalog of original serialized content. We're building the future of storytelling by bringing together exceptional writers, creators, and creative leaders to develop stories audiences can't stop listening to. ### About the Role Pocket FM is seeking a Scriptwriter to join our Japan team on a full-time freelance basis. This is a remote role based in Japan, focused on adapting and localizing long-form episodic stories from English into Japanese. We're looking for experienced scriptwriters with backgrounds in TV, film, audio drama, anime, web fiction, or other long-form serialized content, ideally with experience in genres such as Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Thriller, or Romantasy. You'll adapt English-language scripts into natural, compelling Japanese while preserving story intent, character voice, emotion, pacing, and narrative continuity. Strong English and native or near-native Japanese are required to collaborate with our global team. ### Responsibilities - Adapt and localize long-form episodic scripts from English into Japanese. - Preserve character voice, emotional impact, pacing, and narrative intent while making content feel natural for Japanese audiences. - Rewrite dialogue and scenes as needed to reflect Japanese language and cultural nuances. - Maintain continuity across characters, storylines, terminology, and worldbuilding. - Incorporate feedback from global Content and Creative teams. - Deliver high-quality scripts consistently and on schedule. ### Qualifications - Professional scriptwriting experience in TV, film, anime, audio drama, web fiction, or other long-form episodic storytelling is required. - Strong understanding of serialized storytelling, including pacing, hooks, character development, emotional arcs, and cliffhangers. - Native or near-native Japanese writing ability and strong professional English proficiency. - Experience in Fantasy, Romance, Drama, Thriller, Romantasy, or related genres. - Ability to adapt creatively rather than simply translate. - Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain continuity across long-form stories. - Comfortable working independently in a remote, fast-paced environment. - Experience in localization or adapting international content.
