Senior Cloud Networking Engineer

## **About Airwallex** Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. You'll help build and operate the network infrastructure that supports our engineers, customers, and growth across regions and markets. - Maintain and expand Airwallex's global cloud network infrastructure into new regions and markets while meeting strict regulatory and compliance requirements. - Design, implement, and operate highly available, secure production network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, VPN, and cloud environments spanning multiple global data centres and cloud regions. - Manage global connectivity over international leased lines and domestic internet connections, and own the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and cloud environments. - Drive complex network incidents through to resolution as a first responder and escalation point, producing clear after-action reports. - Partner with InfoSec, DevOps, Database, Corporate IT, Facilities, and other technical and non-technical teams to integrate network solutions and support business initiatives across multiple regions. - Improve operational visibility and reliability by maintaining comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures. - Evaluate and recommend networking technologies and solutions, help shape the team's future structure, and mentor junior engineers. - Support resilient global operations through participation in an on-call rotation and scheduled network upgrades, including flexible scheduling when needed to minimise business disruption. You'll work from our Singapore office. ## What we're looking for ### Essentials - CCNA / JNCIA-level experience demonstrating a strong networking foundation. - Demonstrated experience working in a mixed networking-vendor environment, such as Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco, Aruba, or equivalent, in a global company. - Strong AWS network design and operations experience, with at least three years working with AWS networking in production. - Strong documentation habits and an understanding of change-control processes. - Basic understanding of GCP networking concepts. - Understanding of AI-assisted workflows and practical use cases. - Solid understanding of command-line configuration and troubleshooting for networking hardware and vendors, including JunOS, IOS, or equivalent. - Strong understanding of core BGP and route-filtering principles. - Ability to assess the impact of changes and incidents and manage them appropriately. - An outcome-oriented approach. - Collaborative and supportive work habits. - Willingness to learn new technologies and skills. ### Preferred - Experience working with broader technical teams outside of networking. - Ability to translate network concepts for non-technical stakeholders. - Strong knowledge of Linux distributions. - Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash. - Event-driven automation experience. - Comfort with declarative infrastructure tools such as Terraform and Git-based CI/CD pipelines. - A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and five or more years of relevant experience in a similar role. - Strong, demonstrated written and verbal English communication skills. - Experience with other cloud infrastructure providers such as Aliyun or Azure. - Ability to move quickly and urgently while making sound decisions and assumptions, sometimes without all the information. - Familiarity with elastic connectivity providers. - Familiarity with data-centre providers, access requirements, and conduct requirements. - A builder mindset. - Experience with IPsec VPN setup and troubleshooting. - Experience with fintech, finance, or adjacent high-availability networks. - Experience working within strict compliance restrictions and information-security policies. ## You'll thrive here if - You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself. - You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken. - You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway. - You hold yourself to a high standard even when no one is watching. Quality and accountability aren't external expectations, they're internal ones. - You simplify complexity rather than hiding behind it. ## Learn more about your team The Infrastructure & Productivity team at Airwallex builds the technical foundation that allows our global engineering organization to scale. Our customers are our fellow engineers, and our mission is to make their daily work faster, safer, and more effective by managing the core platforms everyone relies on, from Kubernetes and Kafka to CI/CD pipelines and observability systems. The real challenge lies in keeping these global systems highly reliable and secure while simultaneously optimizing cloud costs, automating manual support, and driving standardization without slowing down product delivery. We operate under the philosophy that best practices should be the path of least resistance, not a forced mandate. If you're a systems thinker who wants to work close to the core of the company and directly shape how we build, deploy, and scale software worldwide, this is where that work happens. ## **Applicant Safety Policy: Fraud and Third-Party Recruiters** *To protect you from recruitment scams, please be aware that Airwallex will not ask for bank details, sensitive ID numbers (i.e. passport), or any form of payment during the application or interview process.
