**Overview**
The Senior Commissioning Engineer serves as the Project Site Lead, providing overall leadership and technical oversight of the commissioning process for ’s mission-critical, medium-voltage double-conversion UPS systems built on utility-scale BESS equipment (batteries, transformers, PCS, and controls). Leading site-based teams of 10–50 people from installation through commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover to services, the Senior Commissioning Engineer owns critical-path execution, stakeholder communication, and final commissioning sign-off for the site.
This is a senior, high-travel field leadership role for an engineer with deep BESS and power systems expertise who is equally comfortable leading a large multidisciplinary site team, interpreting a complex test plan, and serving as the customer-facing technical authority on site.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Leadership & Technical Oversight**
- Provide overall leadership and technical oversight of the commissioning process.
- Manage site-based technical teams of 10–50 people from installation through commissioning and acceptance testing, and facilitate smooth handover to services.
- Manage site-based workflow in line with critical-path demands, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
**Stakeholder & Project Management**
- Act as the primary point of contact between project stakeholders (Project Managers, Project Engineers, Customers, OEMs, and Vendors).
- Understand and interpret project-specific task orders, change orders, and MSAs.
- Develop and follow commissioning plans, test plans, procedures, and schedules.
**Technical Execution & Compliance**
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, grid interconnection requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and high-level troubleshooting for major issues.
- Provide final commissioning sign-off and documentation.
**Required Qualifications**
- Extensive experience in BESS, power systems, control architecture, and commissioning.
- Strong background in commissioning, system integration, and grid compliance.
- Proficiency in SCADA systems, communication protocols, and power conversion systems.
- Leadership and project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or other engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Willing and able to travel up to ~80% to project sites nationwide.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Safety certifications (OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, First Aid, CPR, AED).
- Experience leading large site teams on hyperscale data center or utility-scale BESS projects.
- Experience with medium-voltage switching and system energization.
- Familiarity with major BESS OEM platforms and SCADA protocols (DNP3, Modbus, etc).
