Senior Data Engineer

**📍 Manchester (Hybrid, up to 4 days WFH) | 💰 £55k-£70k** Street Group is one of the fastest-growing PropTech companies in the UK. We want to be the leading creator of delightful experiences for everybody involved in buying, selling, renting and letting property, regardless of their involvement, to improve the industry for everybody by elevating UK Estate Agencies through world-class technology. Our products, [](http://Street.co.uk) and [Spectre](https://spectre.uk.com/), form a powerful duo, working harmoniously together to transform an agent's job. From securing more leads and winning new instructions to streamlining business operations and growing market share, our products are supercharging 1,000s of agencies across the UK. **How we work in 2026** Engineering at Street Group has changed. Most of us don't write code by hand day-to-day anymore - agents do; we direct. The bar has moved with it; planning and judgement matter more than typing speed. Being genuinely tuned into AI tooling is core to the role here, not a side skill - and if you'd rather work the "old" way, that's fair - but we're probably not the place for you. Our Data team builds and runs the data platform behind both products. That means sourcing property data, scraping the property portals with our in-house tool Road, and serving it all through [Kraken](https://medium.com/streetgroup/refreshing-the-kraken-c8e162ca3f4d), our UK property data API. Terabytes of data move through the platform every night, and since we launched a new version of Road there’s more to do than ever. Nobody owns a single pipeline, so you’ll flex across all of it. At this level, the platform is yours to steer: you won’t just build things well; you’ll decide how they should be built, and call it out when the way we’ve always done it is no longer the right way. If you love autonomy, are naturally curious, and want to have a genuine impact within a growing company, we think you'd fit right in! **Here's what you can expect to be working on as a Senior Data Engineer (L5) at Street Group** - Owning data work end to end - from working out whether the data exists, through ingestion and modelling, to getting it to the teams who need it. - Building high-volume pipelines and ETL with performance, reliability and cost in mind and keeping up as sources, schemas and data sets change underneath you. - Running the platform our pipelines run on, our own Kubernetes cluster and deployment tooling and helping decide what we host, what we pay for and what we retire. - Setting the patterns, tooling and code review standards that make the whole team faster, including the Claude skills and MCP servers we rely on. - Being the go-to for questions about our data, what we hold, where it comes from and what it can (and can’t) tell people. **A bit about you** - You have strong commercial experience with Python and SQL - you know a good query from a bad one, and you've built ETL at scale with performance and cost in mind. BigQuery experience is a big plus. - You have production experience with Google Cloud Platform. - You have hands-on platform experience with containers, Kubernetes and Helm. You don't need to write charts from scratch, but you've changed them and deployed them yourself. - You work AI-natively as a default, using tools like Claude Code, plugins and skills fluently, and you're always experimenting with what's next. (If your current employer limits AI at work, tell us what you're doing with it outside work - we'd love to hear about it.) - You enjoy creative problem solving, when data is too expensive or doesn't exist, you find your own way to get it. - You communicate clearly in writing, design docs, RFCs and explaining the decisions you've made. - Bonus points for Go, Terraform, API design, managing a large SQL database or BI exposure. No property experience needed! **Why join Street Group?** 🏠 Hybrid-working - you can work from home up to 4 days per week 🏖️ Guilt-Free R&R - £1000 towards a holiday after your first year with the team (we'll even cover the tax!) 💪 Joining a culture that supports your development and encourages growth 📚 £500 yearly L&D budget for your career development 🎂 Your birthday on us - we pay, you stay away 🙋 'Give something back' - 2 paid days volunteering on us 👶 Enhanced maternity, paternity & adoption pay 🧠 Mental health & well-being support via Health Assured 🧘 Regular well-being initiatives 🕒 Flexible working hours 🚂 Public transport season ticket loans 🌷 Paid menopause leave 🌞 Holiday buying scheme 🚀 Joining a new team in an exciting business with huge ambition 👥 Be a part of something bigger - everyone in our team is passionate about improving the entire property industry! We'd love to see your application!* **Salary** £55,000 - £70,000 dependent on experience. However, sometimes the perfect person is far more or less experienced than we anticipated. In these situations, planned ranges go out the window. If you think that might be the case, please apply and just let us know. We care deeply about helping the tech industry become a more inclusive and diverse place and we work hard to lead by example. We are committed to Equal Employment Opportunity through attracting and retaining a complementary team of employees and building an inclusive environment for all. Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and be able to perform the work specified. **Interview Process** 🕧 4 stages (incl. tech task) = An introductory call with one of our Talent team > Take-home tech task > Technical Interview > Final interview. We want to make our interviews as inclusive as possible, so if you need any adjustments made, or if there's anything you think we should be aware of during the interview process, please do let us know. **A note on using AI in your job application** As a fast-moving and rapidly evolving tech company, we embrace the advantages of AI and encourage its use throughout our application process. However, our goal is to get to know and hire the authentic you - your skills, experience, and values. We don't want to hire an AI-generated version of you. We consider AI to be a valuable tool, not something that should overshadow you as an individual. **How we use AI in the hiring process** Candidate experience is really important to us, and our Talent team use AI notetakers during interviews so they can focus purely on their conversation with you. All hiring decisions are made by people, not AI.
