Senior Data Platform Engineer

Job description

At Bondora, our mission is simple: to make finance easy, transparent, and accessible for everyone. Founded in 2008, we’ve helped more than 700,000 customers across Europe borrow and invest effortlessly through our trusted digital products. As a rapidly growing financial technology company, we’re reaching new heights with a bold vision. We’re set to acquire a banking license, unlocking a world of possibilities for our customers. This transition will allow us to expand our lending across more EU countries and broaden our product suite to deliver even more value. Join us on this journey and let’s build the future of finance together! ### What is this role about? As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the data platform powering Bondora’s journey towards becoming a bank. You’ll be responsible for our Databricks platform, Azure infrastructure, ingestion pipelines, and integration layer. Our platform already works well; your mission will be to make it exceptional through strong ownership, reliable engineering, clear governance, and scalable standards. This is a rare opportunity to shape how data engineering is done across the company. You won’t simply maintain pipelines—you’ll define the platform, standards, tools, and ways of working that enable teams to build trusted data products across Marketing, Operations, Identity, and Finance. You’ll enjoy a high degree of ownership, a diverse set of technical and business problems, and an environment where engineers are empowered to make decisions. You’ll also get to work with the latest technologies, including agentic coding. If you discover a tool that could make us more productive, show us what it can do and help us put it to work. ### Your main responsibilities will be: - Own and continuously improve our Databricks data platform and supporting Azure infrastructure. - Build, maintain, and scale reliable production data pipelines and ingestion processes. - Act as first responder for data platform incidents, including cross-platform issues that surface as data quality problems. - Improve platform performance, security, secrets management, observability, and cost efficiency. - Strengthen data governance through clear ownership, access and PII management, and the identification of orphaned jobs. - Own the integration layer and establish strong engineering standards for testing, versioning, code reviews, CI/CD, and GitHub-based workflows. - Data agent usage is growing rapidly - part of the role is designing the access, cost, and observability boundaries so agents scale safely without becoming the dominant cost line." Your early impact will include taking ownership of critical pipelines, eliminating recurring failures, identifying and preparing orphaned jobs for handover, and parallelizing our largest ingestion pipelines. ### What would ensure success in this role? - Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, or other distributed data-processing technologies. - Experience building, operating, and improving production-grade data pipelines. - A solid software engineering foundation, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, versioning, and code reviews. - Experience working in regulated environments such as finance, banking, reporting, or AML/KYC. - A strong ownership and reliability mindset—you follow problems through to resolution and make sure they stay fixed. - Excellent communication skills, a structured approach, and the confidence to establish standards in a fast-moving environment. ### Bonus points for having - Familiarity with dbt or other modern data-stack technologies. - Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices. - Experience designing scalable integration layers involving APIs and third-party platforms. - Knowledge of data privacy, access control, and PII governance. ### What can you expect at Bondora? How often do you get the chance to help build a bank? The European consumer credit market represents an €855 billion opportunity. Bondora has the ambition to capture a significant share of that market—and an investment product that allows us to fund lending at roughly half the cost of many competitors. You’ll contribute to Bondora’s ambitious goal of reaching €1 billion in revenue. Your skills and decisions will directly affect our growth trajectory and help shape the future of the company. You’ll join a strong product culture built around empowered teams, where engineers help drive decisions and success is measured by meaningful outcomes rather than output alone. Our employees deserve the best. We recognize our people with a competitive salary and a generous benefits package, including five weeks of vacation, private healthcare compensation, a hobby grant, mental healthcare support, share options, and much more. We provide an environment that encourages personal and professional growth. As we continue to evolve and innovate, you’ll have plenty of opportunities—and a dedicated budget—to expand your skills and accelerate your career. **The next steps** If you have the ownership, expertise, and ambition to help build the data platform behind the next generation of banking, apply now! **Our hiring process:** 1. **Meet Ariba, our Recruiter:** Share your experience and aspirations. 2. **Meet our Chief Product and Technology Officer:** Explore the role, its challenges, and the impact you could make. 3. **Complete a take-home case study:** Showcase your expertise with members of our Engineering team. 4. **Go over the main points with our team**: You'll meet our senior engineer and your manager to go over some topics. 5. **Complete our assessments:** Our personality and logic assessments will help us understand your strengths. 6. **Final conversation:** Meet our VP of Engineering to discuss the remaining topics. 7. **Bar Raiser interview:**an independent evaluation step. 8. **The celebration begins:** If the stars align, receive an offer to join the Bondora team! *This is a hybrid role that requires the candidate to be located in Tallinn or Tartu, Estonia.* ## Join our team of Bondorians, and let's make it happen!
