Senior Director of Marketing

Job description

**Company Overview** Mantra Health is an award-winning digital mental health provider on a mission to make evidence-based care more accessible to students. Supporting mental health, wellness, and student persistence, Mantra Health offers a comprehensive suite of services, including self-guided wellness courses, peer support, coaching, therapy, psychiatry, and 24/7 crisis intervention, as well as persistence intelligence technologies. Spanning the entire care continuum, Mantra Health provides comprehensive digital support to every member of the student body while using predictive modeling to identify those at high risk of dropout and extensive population analytics. From acceptance to graduation, Mantra Health ensures that both proactive wellness and targeted intervention are always within reach. Currently deployed across 150+ colleges and universities, Mantra Health serves over 1.3 million students and is actively reimagining how institutions manage mental well-being and student success. We've raised over $34m from leading investors. We're looking for ambitious, talented, action-oriented individuals to join us in shaping the future of student mental healthcare. **Opportunity for Impact** We are seeking a Senior Director of Marketing (Head of Marketing) to lead Mantra's marketing function as we grow. This role owns demand generation, brand and content, campus marketing and conferences, and marketing operations, and reports directly to the CEO. You will inherit a team of five strong, marketers. Mantra sells to universities, which means a long, multi-stakeholder sales cycle: a VP of Student Affairs, a Counseling Center Director, a Provost, and Procurement may all touch a single deal over many months. Marketing also has to reach a second, very different audience: the students who actually use the product, whose engagement and outcomes drive renewal. This role requires someone who can set marketing strategy at the company level and still get close enough to the funnel data to know what is actually working. This position offers the opportunity to build a marketing function's operating system from a real inflection point, working closely with the CEO and the executive team during an active growth-equity raise. **What You'll Do** - **Demand Generation and Performance Marketing:** Own marketing's contribution to pipeline. Build a repeatable demand generation engine, own attribution across a long multi-touch sales cycle, and set clear lead-scoring and handoff SLAs in direct partnership with Sales. - **Conferences and Campus Marketing:** Own the conference and campus marketing portfolio as a core demand generation channel, partnering with the team's campus marketing lead on execution and with Sales and Partner Success on outcomes. - **Brand and Content Strategy:** Set the direction for brand positioning, content, and public relations, and give the team's senior content lead a real seat in planning rather than just producing what strategy hands down. - **Marketing Operations:** Own the marketing stack (HubSpot, Salesforce, reporting dashboards) and the team's data-driven decision-making, in partnership with the team's marketing operations lead. - **Team Leadership:** Directly manage and develop four marketers, several of whom carry real workload and retention risk today, and rebuild the intake and prioritization systems the team has been missing. - **Cross-Functional Alignment:** Coordinate with the product marketing and lifecycle marketing function (now under the Product, Design, and Engineering pod) on Beacon and product launches, and with Sales leadership on GTM alignment and channel partnerships like EAB. **Who You Are** **Communication:** You represent marketing's priorities clearly to executives, to Sales, and to teams outside your reporting line, and you tailor the message to the audience without losing the substance. **Collaboration:** You build real working relationships across functions you do not manage, particularly with product marketing and sales. **Accountability:** You own outcomes, including the uncomfortable ones, and you say plainly when something is not working. **Strategic Thinking:** You can set an annual marketing plan against real growth targets and a fixed budget, and explain the tradeoffs you made. **Operational Excellence:** You read channel performance and attribution yourself, hands-on with the numbers, and know where to move spend and why. You also get into the actual mechanics of the marketing-to-sales handoff, lead scoring, and routing, and can tell a lead quality problem from a follow-up problem. **Stakeholder Management:** You negotiate lead-scoring and handoff SLAs directly with a sales leader, and keep escalation lines clean across teams you do not manage. **Creative Execution:** You bring enough brand and content judgment to guide the team's creative work, and you know when a campaign or piece of content is not landing. **Cultivate Our Team:** You have managed a team through a leadership transition, retained the people worth keeping, and can describe specifically how you did it. **Must-Have Qualifications** - 8 or more years in B2B marketing, including at least 3 to 5 years directly managing a multi-function marketing team - Demonstrated fluency in performance marketing and attribution: you can defend a lead-scoring model and show where spend should move and why - Experience owning the marketing-to-sales handoff end to end (lead routing, scoring, SLAs) in a CRM stack such as HubSpot and Salesforce - Experience managing brand, content, and field or campus marketing at once - Comfortable using AI tools (for example Claude, Gemini, or similar) as part of the daily operating model - Demonstrates accountability and ownership, and a bias toward building durable systems over short-term wins **Bonus If You** - Have navigated attribution in a business with a long, multi-touch B2B sales cycle (6 months or more), and can walk through how you assigned credit and adjusted spend - Have marketed to two audiences on the same account: an institutional buying committee and an end-user population whose usage and outcomes data drive renewal - Have run conferences or field marketing as a primary demand generation channel, with real cost-per-lead and pipeline accountability - Have worked in a market shaped by public-sector procurement or public-records dynamics (RFPs, FOIA requests, or public institution budget cycles) - Have managed a co-marketing relationship with a partner who has an independent relationship with your same buyer, similar to our EAB partnership - Have marketed a product with a multi-year renewal or expansion cycle tied to usage and outcomes data - Have picked up a demand generation program that had stalled or lost momentum and can point to specifically what you changed to get it moving again **Why Choose Mantra** - **Impactful Opportunity:** Lead marketing for a mission-driven company at a genuine inflection point, supporting mental health access for over 1.3 million students. - **Real Ownership:** Build the marketing function's operating system from the ground up rather than maintaining someone else's. - **Executive Access:** Report directly to the CEO and work closely with the executive team through an active growth-equity raise. - **Collaborative Culture:** Lead a team that has already converged on the right strategy (quality over volume, repeatable process, real sales alignment) and needs a leader to clear the path, not redirect it. **Compensation & Benefits** Compensation: Base: $175,000 to $185,000, plus bonus and equity. Total compensation (base + bonus) $200,000 to $220,000. At Mantra, our distributed team is our secret sauce that allows us to support our mission everyday. We're collaborative, empathetic, and curious. We take time to celebrate our wins and learn from our mistakes. Each full-time employee at Mantra enjoys: - Stock Options - Medical, vision, and dental coverage for employees, spouses, and dependents - 401(k) - Flexible work location - Generous personal time off, sick days, jury duty days, and bereavement. Three week sabbatical and $3,000 stipend after five years of continuous full-time employment - Inclusive parental leave, equal for all parents - $1,000 new-parent mental wellness benefit - Commuter card, if you commute - Access to One Medical - Healthcare & Dependent Care FSA and HSA
