Senior Finance Manager

Job description

ResQ is reinventing how commercial repair and maintenance works 🛠️. We take care of everything that breaks inside a commercial location, from HVAC and refrigeration to plumbing, electrical and kitchen equipment, for restaurants and facilities teams across North America. Our promise is simple: one company owns the outcome, and it’s us. In the traditional trades model, every breakdown and repeat visit is another invoice. We flipped that. ResQ is the only trades company that prices around results, so we succeed when equipment stays running and problems get fixed the first time. Every job is backed by flat-rate pricing, a free second visit if a repair isn’t fixed, and the longest labor warranty in the category. That model works because of the technology behind it. Our AI-powered platform builds a living record of every customer’s equipment, including its history, warranties and what’s likely to fail next, so we can prevent problems instead of just reacting to them. Intelligent dispatching sends the right technician to every job, connected sensors catch issues early, and customers get a direct line to their technician from the first call to the final invoice. Joining ResQ means helping change how an entire industry works and bringing modern technology to the people who keep our world running Hello 👋 Future ResQer! ResQ is looking for a Senior Finance Manager to take full ownership of the accounting function across our Canadian parent and U.S. subsidiaries. This is a high-autonomy opportunity to own the numbers, make technical accounting and compliance decisions, and build the processes and infrastructure needed as ResQ continues to scale across North America. We understand that joining a team is one of the most important choices you make, and adding a team member is one of the most important choices we’ll make. We want you to get to know us, and we want to understand how you approach problems, learn, and what motivates you. We thrive on transparency, and we know accounting requires a certain level of ownership, attention to detail, and judgment. Below are some questions to ask yourself to help you decide if this role is right for you at this specific time (and if not, let’s connect later). Are you nodding your head with excitement at the idea of: - Being the person who owns the accounting function and makes the call when things get complicated. - Building processes and controls from the ground up rather than inheriting a perfectly established finance function. - Getting into the details of a business that goes beyond a traditional SaaS P&L, including service delivery, contractor economics, and margins. - Navigating the complexities of a Canadian parent with U.S. subsidiaries and figuring out cross-border accounting and tax requirements. - Making the numbers cleaner, the close faster, and the financial information more useful to the business every month. **What you will do:** - **Own the Accounting Function:** Oversee daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and consolidation across all business entities. - **Lead the Close:** Own the timely and accurate execution of monthly and annual financial close processes. - **Drive P&L & Margin Analysis:** Lead P&L and margin analysis across our service lines, digging into cost of delivery, contractor/vendor payout economics, and margin by line — going beyond a traditional software/SaaS P&L. - **Build & Improve Accounting Processes:** Maintain and strengthen internal controls, close processes, and accounting systems. We're currently on QuickBooks, with an eye toward more scalable platforms as we grow. - **Oversee AR, AP & Cash Management:** Own accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and cash management across all entities. - **Own Cross-Border Tax & Compliance:** Manage U.S. and Canadian tax obligations, including researching nexus requirements, managing registrations, and ensuring accurate state and local sales tax filings and remittances. - **Support Financial Planning & Decision-Making:** Develop and monitor cash flow forecasts, annual budgets, and variance analyses to support executive decision-making. **Who you are:** You already know accounting is about more than getting the debits and credits right. We’re looking for someone who can operate independently, make good judgment calls, and build structure where it doesn't yet exist. We care about technical expertise, but just as much about how you approach problems, learn, and take ownership. - CPA designation (CPA Canada, CPA US, or equivalent). - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or senior accounting role. - Deep working knowledge of US GAAP or IFRS, specifically around services and warranty-style revenue recognition. - Comfortable managing deferred revenue and liability accruals for service obligations, not just standard SaaS/subscription accounting. - Direct experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, cross-border U.S.-Canada accounting and consolidation. - Strong understanding of accounting controls, financial reporting, and close processes. - Comfortable operating without a lot of process already built — you see the gap and build it. - Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills. Looker or Omni experience is a plus. - A proactive, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude with a demonstrated readiness to learn and navigate the complexities of our organization. **Nice to haves:** - Experience with modern accounting platforms (e.g., Rillet or Campfire) or migrating off QuickBooks - Experience in a trades/field-services or home-services business specifically **Want to learn more? 👀 Keep Reading!** We are a mission-driven team and have a big vision to revolutionize the service industry. While on that journey, we recognize that building a startup is very hard. Turning vision into reality in a fast-growing environment takes superhuman efforts and is often one of the most difficult, yet rewarding, things one can do. We do our best to ensure transparency during all stages of the interview process but we realize it's a lot of information 📚 to take in at once so we wanted to centralize everything to make it easier for you to navigate through.
