Senior Platform Software Engineer

Job description

**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Software Engineer based in Spain.** As a Senior Platform Software Engineer, you will take ownership of the cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and production reliability that underpin a growing software platform. You will play a key role in building scalable, resilient, and secure systems that enable teams to deliver product improvements quickly and confidently. Working in a collaborative, seed-stage environment, you will help shape architectural decisions and establish the foundations for long-term technical growth. You will work across AWS infrastructure, CI/CD automation, distributed systems, and PostgreSQL performance optimization. The role offers significant autonomy, hands-on technical challenges, and the opportunity to influence engineering practices from the ground up. You will also explore AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and streamline engineering workflows. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on both platform reliability and the overall product experience. ### Accountabilities: - **Design and manage cloud infrastructure:** Architect, deploy, and operate AWS services across compute, messaging, storage, networking, and observability to support scalable and reliable applications. - **Develop deployment automation:** Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines that enable safe, efficient, and automated releases from code commit to production. - **Own database reliability and performance:** Manage production PostgreSQL environments, including configuration, connection pooling, performance tuning, database migrations, and backup and recovery strategies. - **Strengthen distributed systems:** Investigate complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement robust solutions that address ordering, retries, idempotency, partial failures, and message delivery guarantees. - **Balance speed and technical quality:** Make pragmatic engineering decisions that support rapid product delivery while maintaining system stability, maintainability, and long-term scalability. - **Influence technical direction:** Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to define architectural approaches, prioritize infrastructure improvements, and align technical decisions with business needs. - **Integrate AI-assisted workflows:** Evaluate and adopt AI-powered development tools where they can improve coding efficiency, testing, build processes, and deployment workflows without compromising engineering quality. ## Requirements: - **Professional experience:** Typically 5–10+ years of relevant software engineering or platform engineering experience, including hands-on ownership of production infrastructure and systems. - **Cloud infrastructure expertise:** Strong practical knowledge of AWS services and experience designing, deploying, and operating cloud environments in production. - **Infrastructure as Code:** Proven experience with Terraform or comparable tools for automating and managing infrastructure consistently and reliably. - **Distributed systems knowledge:** Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including message ordering, idempotency, retries, at-least-once delivery, and recovery from partial failures. - **Database engineering:** Demonstrated production experience with PostgreSQL, including connection pooling, schema migrations, query and performance optimization, and backup and restore procedures. - **Software development familiarity:** Ability to read, understand, and navigate TypeScript and Node.js codebases, with familiarity with NestJS and modern backend application architectures. - **Reliability and troubleshooting:** Experience operating high-traffic, highly available systems, combined with strong independent debugging, incident investigation, and problem-solving skills. - **AI development tools:** Comfort using AI coding assistants and integrating AI-enabled tools into engineering workflows while applying sound technical judgment and maintaining high-quality standards. - **Collaboration and ownership:** Strong communication skills, a proactive and independent working style, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and other stakeholder teams. - **Product mindset:** Genuine curiosity about the product and its users, with an interest in connecting infrastructure decisions to customer outcomes and business objectives. - **Location eligibility:** Ability to work remotely from within Europe, with a location within three hours of Central European Time. Visa sponsorship is not available. ## Benefits: - **Competitive compensation:** A competitive salary package aligned with experience and technical expertise. A specific salary range has not been disclosed. - **Equity participation:** Employee stock options offering the opportunity to share in the company's long-term growth. - **Remote flexibility:** Work remotely from within Europe, provided you are located within three hours of Central European Time. - **Meaningful technical ownership:** Take responsibility for core infrastructure, deployment systems, and production reliability in a growing software environment. - **Engineering autonomy:** Influence architectural decisions, improve development practices, and help establish scalable technical foundations. - **Modern tooling:** Explore AI-assisted development tools and identify practical ways to improve engineering productivity and delivery quality. - **High-impact environment:** Work closely with engineering and product stakeholders, with the opportunity to make visible contributions to platform performance, reliability, and product delivery.
