Huawei Canada has an immediate permanent opening for a Senior Principal Architect.
About the team:
The web, Windowing and Graphics team is exploring novel architectures to accelerate the rendering of ArkUI and web platform content. Areas of study include customizing GPU drivers for the needs of web rendering, simplifying the Chrome rendering architecture assuming only TBDR GPU targets, concurrent web layout and taking advantage of the vertical integration possibilities afforded by Huawei’s HarmonyOS.
About the job:
Lead the development of the 2D rendering technology stack and windowing system for terminal operating systems, and drive performance optimization under heavy-load scenarios, with a focus on reducing power consumption and system load.
Drive research and innovation for next-generation 2D rendering technologies, including architectural exploration and implementation such as dynamic fixed-function pipelines and data-driven rendering approaches.
Design and build the desktop environment of the windowing system to support ecosystem development, delivering a cross-platform, high-performance, and low-power system desktop experience.
About the ideal candidate:
Strong understanding of operating systems: solid knowledge of how terminal operating systems function, including fundamentals such as foreground/background resource allocation, CPU/GPU/DDR scheduling and frequency scaling, process and thread management and communication, and user mode vs. kernel mode transitions.
Deep understanding of 2D graphics and rendering: familiar with window management, rendering, and composition pipelines in mainstream operating systems such as Android, Linux, and iOS. Able to analyze each stage of the runtime pipeline, identify CPU/GPU/DDR bottlenecks, and understand key strategies and trade-offs between performance and power efficiency in these systems.
Understanding of desktop environments: familiar with the architecture of mainstream desktop environments such as GNOME and KDE. Clear understanding of the responsibilities of different modules and how they impact system performance and user experience at runtime.
