Senior Product Designer (Engagement)

Job description

At NerdWallet, our mission is to bring clarity to all of life’s financial decisions so people can move forward with confidence. We’re building a team of exceptional Nerds in an inclusive, flexible, and candid culture where you’re encouraged to grow, take smart risks, and be yourself. Whether you work remotely or in an office, we support how you thrive and invest in your well-being, development, and impact. NerdWallet’s Engagement team helps millions of people take real action with their finances, tracking spending, monitoring credit, building net worth, and discovering the right financial products at the right moment. We’re now in the early stages of an AI-native transformation, shifting from traditional design-and-handoff workflows toward a model where design, prototyping, and even deployment are deeply augmented by AI. As a Senior Product Designer on the Engagement team, you’ll own end-to-end design for one or more product pods, shaping the user experiences that bring people back to NerdWallet and help them make smarter financial decisions. You’ll work at the intersection of user needs, business outcomes, and technical possibility, partnering closely with Product and Engineering to deliver high-quality experiences with speed. This is an opportunity to help define what design looks like on an AI-native team, one of the most exciting and consequential design challenges happening right now in consumer tech. This role reports to the VP, Product and Design. # **Where you can make an impact:** - **Shape financial lives at scale.** Your designs will be seen and used by millions of people navigating real financial decisions — from checking their credit score and managing debt, to managing budget, savings, and investments. - **Help define AI-native design.** You’ll be an early architect of how design works in an AI-native product team, influencing practice well beyond your own pod. - **Set the design bar.** At Senior level, your craft and working style create a visible standard for the broader design organization. - **Own the product conversation.** Embedded in a cross-functional pod, you’ll have direct influence on what gets built and why — not just how it looks. - **Advance your skills in a fast-moving environment.** You’ll gain experience designing AI-powered features, working with real consumer data, and iterating with speed in a high-impact product area. # **What you’ll do:** - Define a design vision that balances user needs with engagement and monetization goals, developing end-to-end journeys with a systems mindset. Partner with Product to shape roadmap priorities and advocate for the user based on industry trends and competitive insight. - Leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate ideation and prototype AI-driven experiences — including personalized recommendations, conversational interfaces, and adaptive content. Help evolve the team’s design workflow in an AI-native development model. - Deliver production-ready designs at pace, contributing to NerdWallet’s design system through reusable components. Maintain a high bar for quality across iOS, Android, and mobile web, iterating on qualitative and quantitative signals. - Partner with PMs, Engineers, and Analysts on usability tests and concept validation, and use analytics, funnel data, and A/B results to evaluate decisions and identify opportunities. Translate ambiguous problems into clearly framed design challenges with measurable success criteria. - Build strong relationships across Engineering, Product, QA, and Marketing. Communicate design decisions through well-crafted artifacts and presentations, and actively contribute to a culture of critique and continuous improvement across the design organization. # **Your experience:** - 5+ years of professional product design experience, ideally in a consumer-facing tech environment - A portfolio demonstrating strong craft across end-to-end product work — from problem framing and flows to polished UI and shipped outcomes - Proficiency in Figma, including component-based design and prototyping - Experience designing for native mobile apps (iOS and/or Android) and mobile web - Demonstrated ability to use research and data to drive and explain design decisions - Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system - Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly articulate design rationale to non-design stakeholders - Familiarity with AI-powered features — such as personalization, recommendations, conversational UI, or adaptive interfaces — or an eagerness to grow in this area - Comfort navigating ambiguity and fast-paced environments where the problem definition is still evolving # **Where:** - This role will be remote (based in the U.S.). - We believe great work can be done anywhere. No matter where you are based, NerdWallet offers benefits and perks to support the physical, financial, and emotional well being of you and your family. # **What we offer:** **Work Hard, Stay Balanced (Life’s a series of balancing acts, eh?)** - Industry-leading medical, dental, and vision health care plans for employees and their dependents - Rejuvenation Policy – Flexible Vacation Time Off + 11 holidays + holiday company shutdown - New Parent Leave for employees with a newborn child or a child placed with them for adoption or foster care - Mental health support - Paid sabbatical after 5 years for Nerds to recharge, gain knowledge, and pursue their interests - Health and Dependent Care FSA and HSA Plan with monthly NerdWallet contribution - Monthly Wellness Stipend, Cell Phone Stipend, and Wifi Stipend (Only remote Nerds are eligible for the Wifi Stipend) - Work from home equipment stipend and co-working space subsidy (Only remote Nerds are eligible for these stipends) **Have Some Fun!
