Senior Software Engineer - iOS

Job description

This will be a remote role to start, with plans to transition to hybrid in-office 2x/week located in downtown Toronto. With millions of diners, 70,000+ restaurant partners and 25+ years of experience, OpenTable, part of Booking Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: BKNG), is an industry leader with a passion for helping restaurants thrive. Our world-class technology empowers restaurants to focus on what matters most – their team, their guests, and their bottom line – while enabling diners to discover and book the perfect restaurant for every occasion. Every employee at OpenTable has a tangible impact on what we do and how we do it. You’ll also be part of a global team and its portfolio of metasearch brands. Hospitality is all about taking care of others, and it defines our culture. The OpenTable for Restaurants (OT4R) platform is the heart of OpenTable and connects restaurants to our network of over 25 million diners. The OT4R iOS app is a sophisticated software tool that enables restaurant hosts, servers, managers, and owners to plan shifts, manage tables, and grow their business. As a part of the team, you’ll collaborate with a hardworking and diverse group of engineers, designers, and product managers who are committed to building beautiful, scalable, high-value features. On this team, you will explore a variety of deeply complex and rewarding domain areas, offering plenty of opportunities for professional growth (plus lots of opportunities to just geek out). From inventory management and high-performance data synchronization to crafting sophisticated yet intuitive user interfaces, OT4R has something for everyone. #### **Responsibilities:** - Work closely with other engineers, product managers, and designers to rapidly iterate on product requirements and UX/UI designs, evaluate scope, understand and clearly communicate trade-offs, and build consensus on technical direction. - Turn open-ended problem statements into shipped products by asking the questions that sharpen the problem, proposing a direction, and validating assumptions with product and design rather than waiting for a fully specified requirement. - Structure multi-month initiatives into milestones where each increment delivers real value and reduces risk for the next, and own delivery end to end through launch and beyond. - Promote quality as a first principle by helping us evolve testing practices, facilitate architecture and code reviews, and improve our CI/CD capability. - Assess user impact and provide timely responses to support escalations and incidents. - Provide mentorship and guidance to team members. #### **Minimum Qualifications:** - Experience shipping production-quality native iOS applications and features, with proficiency in Swift. - Comfortable using (and have deep experience in two or more of): SwiftUI, Async/Await, Combine, CoreData, Networking, Instruments, SOLID, MVVM, FRP. - Strong debugging skills with the standard iOS toolchain, including Instruments, breakpoints, and the LLDB console. You test your work carefully for bugs and for consistency with requirements and designs. You also build automated tests and know how to use them properly. - You write code that is readable and maintainable. You create abstractions and find opportunities for code reuse. You embrace AI-native development, and you own the results it produces, checking them for accuracy and holding them to a high quality bar. - Strong communication skills, especially the ability to represent technical trade-offs between potential solutions. You give feedback through code review, and receive it the same way. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Experience building and maintaining a B2B application: software people depend on to run their day, with dense business logic, high information density, and demanding state management. - A track record with release management, including branching strategy and release trains, feature flags, phased rollouts, App Store submission, and crash and regression triage. - Experience strengthening the foundational layers of an app (networking, persistence and data synchronization, design systems, module boundaries, build and test tooling) alongside product feature work, with a clear sense of how platform investment compounds into product velocity. This posting is for an existing vacancy. #### **Benefits and Perks** - Work from (almost) anywhere for up to 20 days per year - Focus on mental health and well-being: - Company-paid therapy sessions through SpringHealth - Company-paid subscription to Headspace - Annual company-wide week off a year - the whole team fully recharges (and returns without a pile-up of work!) - Paid parental leave - Generous paid vacation + time off for your birthday - Paid volunteer time - Focus on your career growth: - Development Dollars - Leadership development - Access to thousands of on-demand e-learnings - Travel Discounts - Employee Resource Groups - 20 days of paid time off - Private health and dental insurance - Life and Disability insurance The best connections happen face-to-face, whether you’re sitting down to dinner or having coffee with a coworker. That’s why OpenTable has adopted a hybrid workplace model. This role aligns with that approach, with an expectation of coming into the office two days a week—giving employees the best of both worlds: in-person collaboration and flexibility. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a compensation range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. We offer a competitive base salary and benefits including: health benefits; flexible spending account; retirement benefits; life insurance; paid time off (including PTO, paid sick leave, medical leave, bereavement leave, floating holidays and paid holidays); and parental leave benefits. This role is eligible to be considered for an annual bonus and equity grant. **Work Environment & Flexibility** At OpenTable, we pride ourselves on fostering a global and dynamic work environment. As a team member with us, you will benefit from a schedule tailored to accommodate a global workforce operating across multiple time zones. While the majority of your responsibilities may align with conventional business hours, there will be instances where you are expected to manage communications - via calls, Slack messages, or emails - outside of regular working hours to effectively collaborate with international colleagues, respond to restaurant partners, and/or address urgent matters. OpenTable will always abide by and consider local laws and regulations. **Inclusion** We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. We know the best ideas come when we bring different voices to the table, so we're building a team as dynamic as the diners and restaurants we serve—and fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome to be themselves. If you need accommodations during the application or interview process, or on the job, we’re here to support you. Please reach out to your recruiter to request any accommodations. #LI-AS3 #LI-Hybrid
