We're united by shared goals and shared motivations at Justworks. These are best summed up in our company values, which are reflected in our product and in our team. [Our Values](https://www.justworks.com/careers#values) If this sounds like you, you’ll fit right in. **Who You Are** You are a senior product engineer who enjoys solving hard problems where software, APIs, and real developer workflows meet. You can take a partner's desired customer experience, understand both sides of an integration, and deliver a practical, supportable solution with the capabilities that are available today. You bring strong API and web-platform fundamentals, communicate comfortably with external technical audiences, and care as much about the developer's path to success as the code itself. You are not satisfied with repeatedly solving the same problem by hand: you turn what you learn from partner work into better SDKs, documentation, tooling, and integration patterns. **What You Will Work On** - Independently lead technical discovery and solutioning for priority partner integrations, including partner API research, data mapping, authentication and authorization flows, architecture choices, implementation support, and launch readiness. - Build and maintain high-quality developer ecosystem capabilities: portal experiences, documentation tooling, SDKs, sample apps, quickstarts, integration templates, and developer-support automation. - Create reference implementations and reusable patterns for common integration needs such as OAuth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, error handling, and observability. - Run technical working sessions with partners, translate complex requirements into clear decisions and action plans, and communicate platform boundaries accurately. - Work closely with Public API Engineering and Product to identify developer friction, validate proposed API designs with realistic use cases, and deliver concise, evidence-backed feedback. - Own a multi-surface developer journey or a portfolio of partner integrations from design through delivery, operational readiness, and iteration. - Improve developer self-service by using support questions, integration telemetry, and qualitative feedback to prioritize what should become documentation, an SDK feature, a product enhancement, or a platform request. - Review designs and code; mentor teammates; and elevate engineering quality in both internal systems and partner-facing artifacts. - Collaborate with Security, Support, and other stakeholders to ensure integrations are safe, observable, and supportable. **How You Will Do Your Work** As a Senior Software Engineer, how results are achieved is central to success at Justworks. You will demonstrate: - Good judgment: You balance partner urgency with long-term maintainability, security, and operational quality. - Resourcefulness: You find a clear route through ambiguity, prototype thoughtfully, and reduce recurring work through reusable solutions. - Teamwork and communication: You build credibility in partner conversations and create durable written artifacts that help others move independently. - Influence and leadership: You lead through technical depth, clear recommendations, mentoring, and collaborative problem solving. - Skills and knowledge: You apply and continuously improve modern practices in API integrations, web applications, testing, observability, and developer experience. You model Justworks' COGIS values—Camaraderie, Openness, Grit, Integrity, and Simplicity—in both the products you build and the relationships you create. **Qualifications** - 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems. - Strong experience consuming, integrating with, or building HTTP APIs; practical understanding of OAuth 2.0/OIDC, API authentication, tokens and scopes, webhooks, pagination, rate limits, and error handling. - Experience with backend and/or full-stack web development in one or more modern languages such as TypeScript, Go, Ruby, or Python. - Experience designing reliable integration behavior: retries, idempotency, asynchronous workflows, data contracts, monitoring, and incident and debugging practices. - Clear technical writing and the ability to explain architecture and tradeoffs to engineers, product partners, and external developers. - Evidence of delivering customer-facing or developer-facing experiences with a high bar for usability and documentation. - Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across Engineering, Product, Partnerships and Sales, Support, and Security. **Nice To Have** - Experience maintaining an SDK, developer portal, API documentation, CLI, sample application, open source libraries, or an integration marketplace. - Experience in regulated, high-trust, or data-sensitive domains. - Experience with OpenAPI, API-client generation, event-driven systems, or workflow engines. - Experience working directly with enterprise technical stakeholders. **Technologies and Experience** Our work spans TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Ruby, AWS, containers, relational data stores, observability tooling, API specifications such as OpenAPI, and OAuth/OIDC. You do not need every technology on day one; you should be able to learn quickly, select the right tool for the problem, and write well-tested, well-documented software. The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $188,000 - $242,000 per year. #LI-Hybrid #LI-SM1 Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.
