Aprio is seeking a **Senior Tax Associate** with a strong partnership tax foundation to support a diverse portfolio of real estate, development, and construction clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys complex business returns, taking ownership of engagements, and expanding their technical skills while working alongside experienced industry leaders and is ideally based in Portland, Oregon, with a hybrid work schedule, though we're open to exceptional candidates throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, who can support occasional in-person team and client needs. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to: - Take ownership of complex real estate tax engagements from planning through completion - Develop specialized expertise in partnership taxation, real estate transactions, and flow-through entities - Build meaningful client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor - Collaborate with an experienced team that is investing in technology, automation, AI-enabled tools, and modern tax delivery processes - Gain exposure to engagement review, staff development, and increasing leadership responsibilities as you progress toward Manager and beyond - Work closely with partners and industry leaders who are committed to mentoring and developing future leaders within the practice - Grow your career within a nationally recognized advisory and accounting firm with a strong and expanding real estate platform ### Responsibilities: As a Senior Tax Associate, your typical day may include: - Preparing and reviewing federal and state tax returns, with a primary focus on partnerships and other flow-through entities - Reviewing workpapers, trial balances, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance - Taking ownership of assigned client engagements and helping drive projects through timely completion - Working on real estate-focused tax matters including partnership allocations, multi-state filings, consolidated trial balances, and related compliance issues - Researching tax issues and identifying opportunities to support client objectives and planning strategies - Collaborating directly with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide responsive service - Responding to review comments, resolving technical issues, and incorporating feedback efficiently - Reviewing work prepared by junior staff and providing coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback - Collaborating with offshore preparation teams and reviewing simpler returns to ensure quality and consistency - Leveraging tax technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and service delivery - Building strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service - Working closely with Managers, Directors, and Partners to deliver high-quality tax solutions and support client growth initiatives ### Qualifications: The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in partnership taxation and enjoys technically challenging business-return work. Successful candidates will have: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting - 2-5 years of public accounting tax experience - Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, corporations, and individuals - Strong understanding of flow-through entities and closely held businesses - Exposure to real estate clients or a strong interest in specializing in real estate taxation - Understanding of concepts such as: Special allocations, M-1 adjustments, multi-state tax considerations, cost segregations, partial asset dispositions, business interest limitations - Experience reviewing workpapers and responding to review notes - Ability to manage multiple engagements successfully - Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and CPA firm operations - Experience working directly with clients and building trusted relationships - Comfort working with tax technology, automation tools, and evolving AI-enabled solutions - Ability to collaborate effectively with both onshore and offshore teams - Strong written and verbal communication skills - CPA or EA designation (preferred)
