Senior Technical Project Manager

Job description

Obsidian Systems is a software engineering consultancy that builds production systems for capital markets and other regulated industries. Our clients include market infrastructure providers, national exchanges, and global financial institutions. Much of our work today centers on the Canton Network, the privacy-enabled blockchain adopted by major capital markets institutions, where Obsidian is one of the most experienced engineering firms in the ecosystem. We're a remote-first, globally distributed team that values ownership, curiosity, and clear communication. We believe the best ideas come from people who ask difficult questions, take responsibility for their work, and collaborate openly to solve challenging problems. **About the Role** We're looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex technical projects across Obsidian Systems. You'll work closely with engineering leads, software engineers, leadership, and client stakeholders to ensure projects are well-defined, effectively managed, and delivered against agreed objectives. You'll bring structure to ambiguity, identify risks before they become blockers, and ensure everyone involved has a clear understanding of priorities, responsibilities, and progress. This is a hands-on role for someone who combines strong project management fundamentals with sufficient technical understanding to engage credibly with engineers, challenge assumptions, and make informed delivery decisions. ## **Key Responsibilities** - Lead technical projects from planning through delivery. - Coordinate engineers, technical leads, and client stakeholders. - Define project scope, milestones, timelines, and deliverables. - Track project progress, dependencies, risks, and blockers. - Manage client expectations and communicate project updates. - Identify and resolve delivery issues proactively. - Manage scope changes and ensure alignment on priorities. - Improve project management processes and delivery practices. - Support resource planning and coordination across projects. - Ensure clear documentation, accountability, and follow-through. ## **Key Requirements** - 7-10 years of experience managing technical projects in software engineering or technology consulting. - Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and engineering workflows. - Experience managing project scope, timelines, risks, and dependencies. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. - Ability to work effectively with engineers and understand technical trade-offs. - Experience managing client relationships and expectations. - Strong organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. - Proactive approach to identifying issues and driving solutions. - Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. - Experience in blockchain, financial infrastructure, or enterprise software is a plus. - Familiarity with agile project management tools and methodologies is a plus. ## **Preferred Requirements:** - Experience working in an engineering consultancy, technical services business, or client-facing software delivery environment. - Familiarity with agile, iterative, and hybrid project delivery approaches. - Experience with distributed teams and remote-first working environments. - Exposure to blockchain, financial infrastructure, distributed systems, developer tooling, or enterprise software. - Experience with project planning and collaboration tools such as Linear, Jira, Asana, or similar platforms. - Experience supporting resource planning, project forecasting, utilisation tracking, or commercial delivery reporting. - Experience managing several concurrent client engagements with different technical and commercial requirements. ## **How We Work** At Obsidian Systems, we believe great work comes from thoughtful people who take ownership, communicate openly, and enjoy solving difficult problems together. These principles guide how we work every day. Own Your Work, Protect Your Team - We take full ownership of our responsibilities while supporting the people around us. We believe accountability creates trust, and clear ownership allows teams to move quickly without stepping on one another's work. Don't Settle for Superficial - We aim to understand problems deeply rather than treating symptoms. We ask questions, challenge assumptions, and make unknowns explicit so we can build durable solutions instead of temporary fixes. Be Honest Proactively - We communicate openly and early. Raising risks before they become problems helps our team and our clients make better decisions. We value transparency over avoiding uncomfortable conversations. Get to It - Many of the challenges we solve have never been solved before. We don't wait for perfection; we start, learn, iterate, and move forward. Progress comes from taking the next concrete step. If you're excited by continuous learning and playing a real role in building the next generation of financial market infrastructure, you'll feel at home at Obsidian.
