Picture a place where you can connect with your teammates, whether remotely or in person, whenever you need support. A place where one day you're helping shape one of the biggest edtech platforms in the world, and the next day you're doing a teambuilding activity with your coworkers. A place where everyone has been selected because they're the best at what they do, and where your manager and team trust your decisions fully. We value work-life harmony, which is why we’ve embraced a “remote-first” approach that emphasizes flexibility and choice while fostering meaningful engagement. It's no surprise that in our latest employee satisfaction survey, **Work-Life Balance** (92%), **Leadership** (85%), and **Employee Engagement** (84%) were highlighted as our top drivers, because we genuinely care about creating an environment where people can thrive, feel supported, and do their best work. A place where you're encouraged to learn and grow, because education is the cornerstone of everything we do. ### **About the process** The goal of our interview process is to learn about each other. Each step is structured to help us understand your unique talents and contributions, while offering you insight into our team and culture. For a detailed breakdown of our recruitment process, please refer to our [**Selection Process Guide**](https://hiring.edpuzzle.com/) which outlines every step of our candidate journey. A dedicated member of our team will support you through each step, and you'll have the opportunity to meet various Edpuzzlers along the way. ### About the role We’re looking for a **Software Engineer** to join our **Product** team in Spain and help us build reliable experiences for teachers and students. We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving real user problems, shows initiative, and is motivated to learn and grow in a highly collaborative environment. In this role, you’ll contribute across the stack, partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to dig into problems, shape solutions, build features, and improve the experience of our users. You’ll bring your own perspective, question assumptions, and take ownership from problem discovery through implementation, helping drive better technical and product decisions along the way. You’ll also continuously learn by taking on problems of increasing complexity over time, including the possibility of leading projects with technical complexity, product complexity, or both. Technically speaking, we use **React** and **Redux** for our frontend and **Node** and **Express** applying **DDD** and **hexagonal architecture** in the backend. We use **MongoDB** for our database and are fully hosted on **AWS** which we also use to store, encode and stream our own pool of videos. Our Engineering team also has access to **Claude Code** as part of a modern development environment that supports learning, experimentation, and day-to-day work. We work with **testing**, **trunk based developmen**t, **CI/CD**, and we follow engineering best practices without compromising on code quality or reliability. ### About our team We’re a **deeply product-focused** team. Engineers at Edpuzzle are expected to think beyond implementation: understanding the user problem, challenging assumptions, making well-reasoned trade-offs, and contributing to better decisions that elevate the experience for our users. We work in cross-functional, rotational teams, fostering close partnerships between Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and other key areas such as Design, Data, QA, and Security. This gives Engineers broad exposure across our systems and creates opportunities to develop both technical depth and strong product judgment over time. At our core is an environment where every voice is heard and valued, and where each team member plays a role in shaping project strategies, not just execution. We value proactiveness and curiosity to make sense of the bigger picture. Engineers are not just encouraged but expected to think critically, form their own opinions, use modern tools with clear judgment, and propose solutions. We’ve built a culture where ideas are shared openly and assumptions are challenged in service of building better experiences for our users. If you’re not already full-stack, you’re aiming to get there. - You are product-oriented: you make technical decisions with the final user in mind, and you care about solving the right problems, not just building things right. - You are pragmatic with technology: you understand that tech is a means to solve user problems, never the end goal. - You use AI and other modern tools responsibly to support and improve your work, never as a substitute for your own judgment and understanding, while remaining fully accountable for the quality and reasoning behind the final output. - You are an avid learner who turns curiosity into action. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and proactively look for better ways to solve the right problems. - You work with a strong sense of autonomy, manage your time well, and are flexible when priorities or context change. - You communicate your ideas clearly and adapt your message to your audience. - You feel comfortable in spoken Spanish and written English, as they are the main language of our engineers’ day-to-day operations. - You are based in Spain and have a work permit to work in Spain. ### Bonus skills - Experience working in startup or scaleup environments and in cross-functional teams - Experience navigating ambiguous environments and contributing beyond pure implementation - Experience with Redux for client state management - Experience with Express.js and MongoDB - Experience with complex backend architectures such as Hexagonal Architecture and Domain Driven Design (DDD) - … or another amazing skill you bring to the table that we haven’t thought of yet! ### What we offer - 💰 Salary between €‎38K – €‎50K based on your professional experience - 🧑‍💻 Remote-first within Spain, with our Barcelona office to come as much or as little as you'd like - 🌴 24 days’ paid holidays plus December 24th and 31st - ⏳ Flexible working hours and reduced working time on Fridays to support work-life balance - ❤️‍🩹 Access to Wellhub to support physical and emotional well-being - 🥣 €2000 annual allowance for meals with Cobee - 🚀 €1,200 per year in professional development reimbursement as well as CodelyTV subscription - 🏥 Private health insurance policy with AXA - 👶 Flexible remuneration for childcare - 🚌 Flexible remuneration for public transport - 🩺 Flexible remuneration for health insurance of immediate family members (spouse and/or children) - ☕ Fully stocked pantry with a variety of snacks and drinks in the Barcelona office - 🙌 Team-building events during working hours to connect, learn, and create lasting bonds with passionate colleagues
