Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Job description

Signicat is a pan-European digital identity company that makes it easy and safe for organisations to know who they are interacting with online. Using our proprietary technology, we help companies and public organisations securely verify the identities of people and businesses, authenticate users, and enable compliant electronic document signing, so their customers can access services and complete online processes with confidence. Today, Signicat employs over 530 people across 20 offices in 15 European countries. We work with leading banks, fintechs, telcos, public authorities, healthcare providers, and enterprises across retail and mobility to deliver trusted digital identity and onboarding solutions at scale. Joining Signicat means contributing to a mission that has a real impact on how society works and trusting each other in an increasingly digital world. About the Role We are looking for a Java/Kotlin Engineer to join the team behind Signicat’s MobileID and Digital Identity Wallet solutions. You will help build and scale secure, reliable services that support authentication, identity verification, payment confirmations and the issuing of digital credentials across Europe. You’ll work closely with other engineering teams to design and develop the core services and interfaces that power our products. The team takes ownership of the solutions it builds, from development through to running them in production, and uses modern, AI-assisted ways of working to solve problems efficiently and deliver high-quality results. What will you work on: Design, build and maintain the microservices at the core of the Signicat’s MobileID and Digital Identity Wallet solutions . Own your services end to end, from code and tests through deployment, monitoring and how they actually behave in production. Work on the delivery platform alongside the rest of the team. Strengthen the security of the solution: threat modelling, keeping current with standards, and the authentication protocols and key handling the whole product rests on. Take part in architecture decisions and technical discussions, within the team and across the client and service teams. Core technologies you will get to work with: Languages: Java, Kotlin Frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Ktor Cloud platforms: GCP (production SaaS), AWS (test automation) Containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm Delivery: ArgoCD (GitOps), GitLab CI, Jenkins Infrastructure-as-code: Terraform APIs: RESTful API development in Java and Kotlin (Spring, Ktor) Databases: MySQL, Oracle Operating systems: Linux. What we expect: 2+ years of experience with Java and/or Kotlin. Comfortable working with Spring or a comparable JVM framework, and experienced in designing REST APIs used by other teams. Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS or Google). Real experience running services on Kubernetes (not only handing over a Dockerfile to someone else). Hands-on knowledge of relational databases, ideally MySQL (exposure to PostgreSQL or other relational databases is also relevant). A security instinct: you think about what an attacker would do with the API you just designed. Demonstrated experience using AI tools and integrating them into everyday work. Strong English proficiency, both written and spoken. Bonus points for: Experience with Helm, ArgoCD or other GitOps tooling. Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code. OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect in production, not just in theory. Cryptography, key management or HSMs. Mobile authentication, biometrics or device attestation. Regulated environments such as PSD2 and strong customer authentication, or eIDAS.
