Software Engineer, NHI Platform

Job description

Every breach, every failed audit, every new hire stuck in onboarding purgatory traces back to the same question: *who has access to what — and should they?* Identity is where modern companies break. Too much access leaks data. Too little grinds the business to a halt. Lumos is the industry's first Autonomous Identity Platform — software that doesn't just surface access risk, but acts on it. We started with a self-service AppStore and grew into the critical infrastructure connecting apps, identities, and data for GitHub, MongoDB, Mars, Pinterest, Anduril, Intercom, Roku, and Netskope. At the center is Albus, our AI agent for identity — mining roles, approving access, and catching the drift humans miss. You'll ship work that thousands of IT and security teams touch every day. You'll own problems without playbooks, because the category is being redefined in real time — by us. **Why Lumos?** - 🚀 **Jump on a rocketship.** Since launching out of stealth in April 2022, we've grown from 20 to ~130 Alchemists and raised over $65M from a16z, Scale, Neo, Greg Brockman (President at OpenAI), and Phil Venables (CISO at Google). - ⭐ **Customers love us — and so does the industry.** Named a Strong Performer in the 2026 Gartner Voice of the Customer for IGA — 4.7/5, with 96% of reviewers saying they'd recommend us. Our customers cut time-to-access by 98%, slash IT tickets by 72%, and eliminate excess privilege at scale. - 🏆 **A culture worth joining.** Three years running on Forbes' Top 100 Best Startup Employers in America (2024, 2025, 2026) — measured on culture, retention, growth, and job creation. That's our Alchemists, not our marketing. See what we live by [here](https://blog.lumos.com/p/the-anatomy-of-an-alchemist). **Lumos** is making it a joy for companies to manage their apps and identities ✨. By integrating usage, spend, compliance, and access data, we provide a level of clarity and insight previously unimaginable. At the heart of our products is our identity data platform, the systems that ingest identity data from hundreds of third-party integrations and turns it into the trusted, insight-rich primitives that power every Lumos product. As a Software Engineer on our NHI Platform team you will drive the evolution of our non-human identity data backbone, the systems every Lumos product depends on. You will be instrumental in building robust, scalable, and reliable platform software. You will play a key role in designing and operating the software that turns raw identity inputs into a trusted foundation for the product. We’re a startup that values **ownership**, **curiosity**, and **trust**—and we’re looking for engineers who love building platform infrastructure that enables teams to move faster while improving resilience and visibility. ### ✨ **Your Responsibilities** - Design, develop, and operate systems that transform high volumes of identity data from third-party integrations to product consumers with correctness, freshness, and operational rigor. - Contribute to the technical vision for a world-class data infrastructure that empowers engineering, product, and AI teams, enabling seamless access to high-quality data. - Establish SLOs, observability, and operational tooling that catch and remediate failures in identity data systems before they reach customers. - Promote and implement software engineering best practices for building scalable, reliable, and secure data-centric applications. Elevate the principles of software engineering within the data domain. 🙌 **What We're Looking For** - 1+ years of professional backend or platform engineering experience building production systems other teams depend on, such as ingestion, sync, or event-driven pipelines. - Strong backend fundamentals. You’ve built APIs (REST or gRPC) and services backed by relational databases like Postgres or MySQL, and you’ve evolved schemas on live tables. Our stack is Python, Postgres and Kafka on AWS. - You care about correctness. You think about idempotency, ordering, retries vs. permanent failures, and dead-letter handling, because downstream products take action on the data you produce. - You operate what you ship. You’ve deployed containerized services to AWS, GCP or Azure, debugged from metrics, traces and logs, and been part of an on-call rotation. - You’re excited to build from the ground up. This is a greenfield team, and the systems you build become the foundation every other Lumos product runs on. - Nice to have: Kafka, Temporal or change data capture (Debezium), Terraform, and familiarity with identity data like accounts, entitlements, service accounts and API keys. ⭐️ **What We Value** We also care about whether you would be a good fit for Lumos based on the [values](https://blog.lumos.com/p/the-anatomy-of-an-alchemist?open=false#%C2%A7lumos-values-the-anatomy-of-an-alchemist) and characteristics that define how we achieve outcomes, not just your resume.
