Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Job description

**At Murj, we do what we love and love what we do!** Murj was founded in 2014 to solve a problem witnessed first-hand. Founder and CEO, Todd, worked with cardiology practices as an implantable cardiac device sales representative for Medtronic. He watched clinicians struggle to manage these sophisticated devices using outdated and inadequate tools. Having previously worked in product management at Apple, Todd knew that brilliant design can profoundly impact the user experience -- so why not design a better way to care for patients with implantable devices? In Murj, Todd created an enterprise SaaS cardiac device management software solutions company that reimagines and transforms patient care through thoughtful design and a passion for quality and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Today, Murj continues this transformative innovation with intuitive, elegant, and imaginative technology solutions that improve the lives of cardiac care professionals and their patients. **What Murj offers.** Murj is for people seeking a fast-paced, ever-changing environment surrounded by a supportive team that works hard and strives for innovation and professionalism, with a steady diet of humility and camaraderie. Every employee is treated like family, with love, respect, and responsibility. The individual and collective success of every employee is at the forefront of what we do and believe. And in joining Murj, you are joining a community that believes in evolution and promotion from within; there is a high degree of opportunity for progression, creativity, and ownership. From your first day at Murj, you are eligible for full medical, dental, and vision insurance along with an open vacation policy, more than 10 annual company holidays, and competitive compensation and equity participation, and a 401(k) after 3 months of service. **How We Work at Murj** Murj is the right place for people who excel in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Murj embodies a high-performance culture where every team member is expected to exceed expectations and take ownership beyond their role to drive our collective success. Employees should be comfortable working independently and taking initiative to identify and address needs. This proactive approach is essential to thriving at Murj. We believe in working hard together, with a shared sense of purpose and drive. We’re not afraid to ask tough questions, and we support each other in reaching for bold new ideas. **Let us leave you with this.** If this role sounds intriguing - we encourage you to apply. And we encourage applicants to embrace new challenges, as the right fit at Murj is often more about the person and the challenges they seek, not just what they have accomplished in the past. **About The Role.** As an SQA Engineer at Murj, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and usability of our enterprise SaaS cardiac device management platform. Working closely with Engineering and Product teams, you will focus on end-to-end functional testing, user-level workflow validation, and exploratory testing to safeguard clinical data integrity, interval tracking, and EHR interoperability. You will serve as the advocate for our clinical users, ensuring that every software update delivers a seamless and highly reliable experience for healthcare providers managing life-saving cardiac devices. **What You’ll Do.** - Design, execute, and maintain comprehensive test plans and manual test cases covering functional, end-to-end, regression, and usability testing. - Validate complex clinical workflows, including patient data processing, transmission triaging, billing interval tracking, and discrete HL7/FHIR EHR data integration. - Perform non-code-level (black box) functional validation to simulate real-world clinician and administrator usage patterns across the application. - Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to review requirements, refine user stories, and ensure complete test coverage prior to product releases. - Identify, document, and track software defects thoroughly using issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira), working alongside developers to verify fixes and ensure high-quality software output. - Partner with Customer Support to investigate, reproduce, and triage reported production bugs or customer-escalated application issues. - Participate in release readiness evaluations and sign-off processes for web application deployments and feature updates. **What Makes You a Great Fit.** - You have an uncompromising commitment to quality and detail, recognizing that behind every software feature are clinicians and cardiac patients who depend on accurate data. - You demonstrate strong analytical thinking and curiosity, actively probing for edge cases, unexpected user paths, and system failure modes. - You take full ownership over software quality, proactively identifying gaps in requirement specifications or test coverage without waiting for direction. - You thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, navigating shifting priorities with adaptability and a solution-oriented mindset. **What You Bring.** - 3+ years of professional experience in Software Quality Assurance with a strong focus on manual/black box testing of web applications and SaaS platforms. - Demonstrated experience testing complex workflows, cross-browser performance, and data integration layers. - Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and experience working within Agile/Scrum development methodologies. - Proven ability to write clear, concise, and structured test plans, test scenarios, and bug reports. - Exceptional problem-solving skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities. **Nice To Haves.** - Experience testing healthcare software, clinical software workflows, or medical device data systems. - Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and HIPAA/PHI compliance regulations. - Experience using Jira or similar test management and issue tracking platforms. - Basic knowledge of API testing tools (e.g., Postman) for validating data movement across endpoints. **What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days).** - First 30 Days: You’ve completed onboarding, gained a strong foundational understanding of Murj’s clinical workflows and system architecture, and integrated into sprint rituals. You are executing existing test cases and participating in release regression cycles. - By Day 60: You are independently writing comprehensive test cases for new feature requests, partnering closely with Product and Engineering to clarify requirements, and triaging production bugs with Customer Support. - By Day 90: You are a trusted authority on software quality across the Murj platform. You have identified and filled gaps in test coverage, streamlined regression testing cycles, and consistently advocate for optimal user experience and system reliability. **Travel expectations:**1-10%: Minimal to no travel; maybe a few meetings or events.
