JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL FUNCTION The Sr. Automation Engineer plays an integral strategic role in shaping the future of eyewear assembly automation, & leads and/or is involved in multiple phases of projects including planning, detailed design, construction, commissioning and release. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead design for medium-large projects that support new product or technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, implementing automation system configuration changes & supporting engineering runs Devise new approaches to problems through adaptations/modifications of automation technical principles Work with multiple disciplines, including manufacturing, process engineering, maintenance, & quality assurance to manage portfolio of projects Diagnose/troubleshoot equipment issues Direct/mentor junior automation staff engineers & technicians Create automation & machine design requirements including 3D drawing design, wiring, programming, safety features, & sourcing Detail control schemes with wiring and system drawings for automation projects Design PLC/HMI/Robotics (programming & creation of technical documents such as user requirements, functional specifications, & design specifications) Troubleshoot & diagnose design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies; proactively recommend revisions and/or improvements Help manufacturing departments succeed through easy-to-use tooling, monitoring, and automation that improve safety, quality, productivity, delivery & cost Engage in project planning to identify automation opportunities Prepare cost estimates and written technical proposals Generate network communication protocols for control equipment Develop mechanical/electronic controls integrating assembly stations, 6 axis handling devices & conveyance devices Document equipment requirements that verify & validate performance, with instructions for operation, maintenance & repair Improve standards for assembly by working with engineering professionals to promote defect-free processes Interact cross functionally from concept through test runs through released manufacturing process BASIC QUALIFICATIONS BS Degree in Engineering with 7+ years’ experience Experience in high volume production, with emphasis on ergonomic design, yield improvement, labor & cost reduction Experience with electromechanical systems & automating assembly processes Proficient in PLC programming (Ladder Logic and Structured Text) & HMI development 6-Axis robotics programming/integration experience Excellent conceptual, analytical, & problem-solving abilities Ability to coordinate & complete multiple tasks under minimal supervision Strong verbal & written communication skills Understanding of Sensors, Robotics, Complex Mechanical designs & controls for automated systems Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SOLIDWORKS preferred) Strong project management skills with ability to create technical documentation PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with Collaborative Robots (YuMi) and/or Denso or Fanuc Robots Experience in the Consumer Eyewear Industry Lean Six Sigma and/or SPC Training Knowledge of Cognex, PPT, DVT, or Fanuc Vision systems Pay Range: 109,230.00 - 152,546.90 This posting is for an existing vacancy within our business.
