Position Summary: Responsible for the steering wheel product development to meet the target of engineering cost, quality and timing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description are to be used as a guideline and are not meant to be all-inclusive of the essential functions of the position. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary. According to regulations, customer requirements, quotation assumptions, and JSS product strategy, determine the product concept. Define the product shape and structure for an assigned CAD designer to model. Define the product drawings for an assigned CAD designer to model. Note: Training will be provided on specific design guidelines for the assigned product, and will have access to unified design standards . Create and maintain bill of material for the product Process engineering changes, submit definitions of CAD model updates and drawing updates. Create tolerance stacks for gap & flush analysis, and use them to refine the product design Define master sections for drawings to analyze and track important design features Define and track critical characteristics for important features, cascade them through drawings, DFMEA, and align them to our PFMEA and production systems. Create and maintain DFMEA and DRBFM to analyze the potential failure of the design, and take preventive measures to avoid the failure Prepare and present Design Review gates Track and record lessons learned for design-related items Perform root cause analysis on samples from validation testing, and support root cause analysis for quality and warranty issues. Develop and manage VA/VE savings ideas Submit and manage bill of material and technical definitions for RFQs Participate in new business quote process by preparing/reviewing quoting BOMs and presenting tech reviews Create and maintain the QTP (Qualification/Validation Test Plan) according to legal and customer specifications, and engineering test reports Communication with the customer about test requirements and test results. Participate in launch team meetings Perform engineering activities on time to support overall project timeline Ethics and Compliance: Lead by example. Complete all the online and/or onsite training scheduled in your location related to ethics and compliance topics. Become familiar with Joyson Safety Systems ' Ethics and Compliance Policies. Report to your Supervisor, the Executive Committee, the Compliance Department, or any of the available resources any possible violation of the Laws, the Code of Conduct, or the Company's Policies. Ensure the quality and integrity of data and information related to your job position and department. Supervisory Responsibilities: No Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty Strong technical knowledge of mechanical parts, and basic knowledge of electrical interfaces (such as wire harnesses, ECU module connections) Problem solving ability Detailed knowledge on automotive product development cycle Familiar in tools such as DFMEA, tolerance stacks, GD&T usage on drawings Excellent communication skills Excellent organization skills Ability to create and present technical material to leadership or customers Ability to reference technical specifications, extract relevant information, and use it to define test requests, and create engineering test reports. Ability to define and improve product designs to align to technical specifications (with product training and access to design guidelines for specific product assigned) Willingness to work on special projects that may be requested occasionally Willingness to visit assembly plant for product or vehicle to improve DFM (design for manufacturing) Willingness to handle and review physical parts and assemblies Travel internationally occasionally (typically 0 to 4 times per year depending on project assigned) Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related major. 6+ years’ experience in application engineering or automobile industry.
