Sr. Stimulation Chemist

Job description

## **The Company** MaverickX is revitalizing critical resource extraction with precision biologics. We are a team of scientists, engineers, and business operators who are bringing cutting-edge biotechnology products to the world’s most critical industries. ## **The Team** The Applications team owns the testing and performance validation of our chemistry, responsible for both lab evaluation and field execution. It is a small, cross-disciplinary group that works directly with technical operators to deploy, prove, and iterate on our solutions. Beyond the current field program, the team evaluates new applications for our chemical platform across the oilfield. ## **The Role** We are seeking a **Senior Stimulation Chemist** to own the chemistry behind our flagship oilfield product, PetroX Boost. PetroX Boost is a biochemical treatment that selectively alters mineral phases in unconventional reservoirs, with the objective of enhanced oil production. You will own the chemical performance of PetroX Boost, including reaction with target minerals, spent-fluid behavior, and downhole compatibility. You will define and interpret the laboratory program behind each treatment, and you will translate the chemistry into constraints and recommendations that shape how the fluid is blended and pumped. ### Responsibilities - **Reaction Chemistry:** Characterize how the fluid reacts with target mineral phases; dissolution behavior, reaction kinetics, and the chemistry of penetration and spending. Define what the chemistry implies for treatment sizing and placement, and hand those constraints to treatment design. - **Spent-Fluid & Precipitation Behavior:** Own the chemistry of spent-fluid behavior, including precipitation risk, secondary reactions, and formation-damage potential. - **Compatibility:** Validate compatibility with co-injected fluids, production chemical programs, brines, and physical equipment. Define the conditions under which PetroX Boost is a viable treatment. - **Design Input:** Provide the technical constraints for treatment designs, such as spending rate versus target depth, precipitation thresholds, and compatibility limits. - **Platform Chemistry:** Support the technical evaluation of new oilfield applications for our platform as they emerge. ### Qualifications - Bachelor's or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field - 10+ years of hands-on oilfield chemistry experience, with personal ownership of formulations and their performance - Depth in one or more of: oilfield stimulation chemistry, acidizing chemistry, chelant/sequestrant chemistry, mineral dissolution, or aqueous inorganic chemistry - Experience characterizing reaction kinetics and precipitation behavior in complex fluid systems - Experience designing and interpreting laboratory testing, such as dissolution, compatibility, precipitation, corrosion - Bias toward action and strong ownership; comfortable without a corporate playbook - Strong desire to meaningfully contribute to American dynamism and the global resource supply chain ### Preferred Qualifications - End-to-end validation experience from bench to field deployment - Experience with bio-based chemistries - Working familiarity with the Permian, Bakken, and Eagle Ford basins and their mineralogies - Working familiarity with production chemical programs (scale and corrosion inhibitors, biocides, demulsifiers) - Lab experience with a leading energy operator or service company ### Additional Requirements - Must be willing to work on-site in Austin, TX - Willing to travel to field sites, other MaverickX facilities, and industry events, as needed - Willing to work extended hours, as needed - Physical requirements: lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching over head, bending, standing/on feet for long periods of time - General occupational health requirements: BSL2 lab operation guidelines - Strong skills in technical communication, writing and reporting to various audiences (technical and nontechnical backgrounds); ability to work well on a team and with coworkers of various scientific capabilities and backgrounds; ability to work independently ### Our Values - **Customer First:** Our first and foremost priority is to give customers technology that makes their business more valuable. There is no deviation from this north star - **Play to Win:** This is a professional team, not a family. Hardcore work ethic is a baseline; Measurable impact is how we define success - **Extreme Ownership:** We are self-starters who learn voraciously, master their domain, and take full accountability for the outcomes of their work - **Relentless Execution:** A good idea is meaningless until it is solving a customer problem. Moving with speed, focus, and determination is how we win in our industry - **Radical Candor:** Focused, direct, and impactful communication is our language. No time for beating around the bush - **Shared Success:** Meaningful equity participation for employees means that when Maverick wins, everyone wins - **Uncompromised Integrity:** We do first class business in a first class way, while staying loyal to our customers, shareholders, employees, and country ### Benefits - At Maverick X, our compensation packages reflect our recognition of the value our employees bring to our success and our commitment to recruiting top talent. We cater our benefits to ensure our team succeeds both in and out of the office - Premium health insurance: With medical, dental, and optical options, we offer some of the best coverage on the market - Continuing education: We take employee development seriously and strive to unlock our team’s full potential through continuous learning initiatives
