Job description
**This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in India.** As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across teams while designing and evolving large-scale systems built for scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability. You will help shape technical strategy, influence product and engineering roadmaps, and guide architectural decisions across multiple teams. The role combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with the ability to solve complex, systemic technical challenges. You will lead modernization, technical-debt reduction, observability, and reliability initiatives that strengthen critical production systems. You will also help accelerate engineering effectiveness through the thoughtful adoption of AI-assisted development practices. Working closely with engineering, product, QA, design, documentation, and technical support teams, you will have broad influence over both technology and business outcomes. ### Accountabilities: - Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of large-scale systems and distributed architectures, ensuring scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability. - Define and guide technical vision and strategy across multiple teams, aligning engineering priorities with long-term product and organizational objectives. - Partner with engineering and product leadership to influence technical priorities, roadmap decisions, architectural direction, and investment areas. - Establish and promote strong architectural patterns, coding standards, design practices, and engineering principles across teams. - Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and hands-on problem solving. - Lead the investigation and resolution of complex technical issues, including root-cause analysis, production incidents, performance challenges, and systemic reliability concerns. - Drive observability, monitoring, incident response, and reliability engineering improvements across production environments. - Lead technical-debt reduction and modernization initiatives, including re-platforming strategies and their execution across multiple engineering teams. - Identify opportunities to adopt AI-assisted development practices that improve engineering velocity, software quality, developer productivity, and measurable business outcomes. - Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Technical Support, QA, Design, Documentation, and Product Management to deliver effective technical solutions. - Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership that promotes knowledge sharing, engineering excellence, and consistent technical standards. - Influence technical direction across teams without relying on direct reporting authority, building alignment around complex architectural and engineering decisions. ### Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. - 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated technical leadership across complex, cross-team initiatives. - Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, software architecture, design patterns, and industry-standard engineering practices. - Deep experience designing and evolving large-scale, distributed, high-performance systems and architectures. - Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating production applications on public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Solid understanding of cloud architecture, security best practices, scalability, reliability, and operational considerations. - Experience with .NET full-stack and API development across frontend and backend technologies is preferred. - Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Rust, C#, or JavaScript. - Experience with distributed and microservices-based architectures, Docker, and Kubernetes. - Experience with cloud-native infrastructure, serverless architectures, managed Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Bicep. - Understanding of cost-aware cloud resource design and efficient infrastructure utilization. - Experience implementing modern authentication and authorization mechanisms, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML. - Strong experience with testing strategies, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, incident response, and reliability engineering at scale. - Knowledge of secure coding practices, threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, and modern application security. - Experience working with both relational and non-relational data stores. - Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills. - Ability to operate independently, influence senior stakeholders, and drive technical alignment across multiple teams without direct authority. - Currently based in Pune or willing to relocate to Pune. ### Benefits - Opportunity to shape technical strategy and architecture across large-scale, business-critical systems. - Broad technical influence across multiple engineering teams and product areas. - Hands-on exposure to distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, microservices, Kubernetes, and modern infrastructure practices. - Opportunity to lead modernization, reliability, observability, and technical-debt reduction initiatives with significant organizational impact. - Ability to help shape the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and improve developer productivity and software quality. - Close collaboration with engineering and product leadership as well as cross-functional technical teams. - Strong opportunities for technical mentorship, knowledge sharing, and engineering leadership. - Work within a high-performance environment focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous technical improvement. - Pune-based opportunity with compensation, healthcare coverage, leave, flexibility, and other employment benefits determined by the hiring company and discussed during the recruitment process.
