Job description
**About Electrified Thermal Solutions** Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Electrified Thermal Solutions has a simple and massive goal: to electrify industry. To do this, we are building the Joule Hive™ thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive™ at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln. Electrified Thermal Solutions is looking for a motivated Structural Design Engineer to join our team in Massachusetts. This is a full-time role to help design and support the development of next-generation energy storage and thermal systems. As a Structural Design Engineer, you will join our engineering team and play a pivotal role in developing our flagship commercial Joule Hive Thermal Battery. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a cutting-edge project in renewable energy technology. ### What You'll Do - Ownership of design and analysis of the mechanical structure of a commercial Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system - Generate parts, assemblies, and drawings within CAD in collaboration with design, construction, and commissioning engineering, as well as research & development departments - Leverage engineering analysis and simulation methods to inform design decisions impacting R&D prototyping and final product design - Provide onsite support for critical phases of FOAK system construction - Maintenance of detailed documentation throughout project work, including design specifications, CAD models, simulation results, and test reports - Regular progress updates and technical reports to project stakeholders - Support management of external contractors, including reviewing deliverables and performing QA/QC checks ### What You'll Bring - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 1-5 years of relevant mechanical design experience (or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field) - At least 1 year of experience in managing external engineering contractors - Proficiency in any CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Onshape - Ability to use Microsoft Excel and other tools for analytical means - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to work independently and in a team environment - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Familiarity with Python or MATLAB is a plus - Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication or industrial equipment commissioning is a plus - Experience with renewable energy systems, thermal energy storage, or extreme temperature systems is a plus ### What We Offer - Competitive compensation package, including equity options - Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance - 401(k) with 4% matching - 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, with an additional two weeks for birthing parents - 20 days of flexible vacation days annually - A minimum of 10 days of paid company holidays - Access to commuter benefits - Access to a Health Savings Plan with company contributions
