Structural Systems Architect

Job description

About the Company RNGD is a rapidly scaling organization emerging as a nationally recognized leader in construction through our unique Renegade mindset focused on innovation, creativity, and culture. The team is made up of a highly engaged group of seasoned professionals and emerging leaders. We are creators who believe that what we build drives the growth of our cities and that to fulfill our mission, we must constantly challenge the old way of doing things. Headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, we thrive on building communities, building teams, building leaders, and growing the business throughout the Southeast region with additional offices in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. About the Role We’re looking for a Structural Systems Architect that will be the system owner and technical authority responsible for how structural systems are designed, integrated, and ultimately built across RNGD projects. This role operates within RNGD’s design-build environment, leading structural decision-making from early concept through fabrication and field execution. Unlike traditional engineering roles, this position emphasizes ownership, constructability, and real-world performance—ensuring structural systems are not only technically sound, but optimized for manufacturing, logistics, and installation. The Structural Systems Architect works across disciplines to drive alignment between design intent and execution, shaping how projects are delivered through RNGD’s Renegade Delivery Method. Core Responsibilities System Ownership and Technical Leadership Own structural systems from concept through fabrication and field installation. Serve as the technical authority for structural design decisions across assigned projects. Set direction for structural system strategy, ensuring alignment with project goals and delivery approach. Drive accountability for structural system performance, constructability, and integration. Design Integration and Execution Lead the development of structural systems across steel, concrete, wood, and foundation design. Translate conceptual designs into coordinated, buildable structural solutions. Ensure alignment between structural systems and architectural, MEP, and construction workflows. Support execution of conceptual design packages, feasibility studies, and proposal efforts. Constructability and Delivery Alignment Ensure structural systems are optimized for fabrication, logistics, and installation. Partner with field teams and fabrication partners to validate design decisions in real-world conditions. Proactively identify and resolve constructability challenges before they impact project execution. Embed structural sequencing, tolerances, and installation requirements into design deliverables. Standards, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement Lead development and enforcement of structural system standards and best practices. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, repeatability, and scalability of structural systems. Drive adoption of enabling technologies, workflows, and digital tools. Contribute to advancement of RNGD’s design-build and prefabrication capabilities. Risk, Planning, and Performance Anticipate structural risks related to design, materials, sequencing, and field conditions. Estimate effort, duration, and complexity of structural design activities. Develop solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and constructability. Support achievement of project objectives and key performance indicators. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams. Facilitate alignment across design, fabrication, and construction stakeholders. Communicate structural system strategies, risks, and decisions clearly to project teams. Support a high-performing project environment through proactive collaboration. Client and Industry Engagement Support management of client and project partner experience through proactive leadership. Represent RNGD’s structural capabilities in client interactions and project pursuits. Participate in industry engagement and contribute to thought leadership. Uphold brand standards and reinforce RNGD’s delivery approach in all interactions. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Ten or more years of experience in structural engineering within building or design-build environments. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Demonstrated experience in design-build, prefabrication, or integrated project delivery environments. Strong understanding of structural systems including steel, concrete, wood, and foundations. Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, RISA or similar structural analysis tools, and digital coordination platforms. Ability to develop structural construction documents and guide execution in the field. Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills. Builder mindset with a focus on execution, ownership, and results. Core Competencies RNGD Values Alignment Exemplifies RNGD’s core values: Renegade Mentality Sweep Floors Build Together Honor Promises Systems Thinking Sees structural systems as part of a fully integrated building solution. Understands interactions between structure, MEP, architecture, and construction. Optimizes systems holistically rather than in isolation. Technical Authority Serves as the go-to expert for structural system decisions. Applies deep technical knowledge to guide project direction. Maintains accountability for system performance and outcomes. Constructability Focus Designs with full awareness of fabrication, sequencing, and field execution. Bridges the gap between design intent and real-world construction. Ensures systems are practical, efficient, and buildable. Decision Making and Ownership Takes ownership of outcomes rather than individual tasks. Makes informed decisions balancing risk, cost, schedule, and performance. Operates with autonomy and accountability in a fast-paced environment. Collaboration and Integration Works seamlessly across disciplines, teams, and stakeholders. Drives alignment between design, fabrication, and construction teams. Builds strong working relationships that enable project success. Innovation and Continuous Improvement Identifies opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and delivery methods. Supports adoption of new tools, technologies, and approaches. Contributes to advancing RNGD’s Renegade Delivery Method. RNGD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
