Role Purpose As a Technical Superintendent, you will support Fleet Management in monitoring and coordinating the technical operations of assigned vessels. You will help maintain high standards of safety, technical reliability, and operational performance by following agreed procedures, escalating significant issues, and providing practical technical input. Working on behalf of ship owners and under the direction of senior team members , you will contribute to day-to-day decision-making , fleet performance, and Oceonix ’ commercial success. Key Responsibilities Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), operating expenses, and budget performance for assigned vessels, identify variances, and report or escalate concerns to the appropriate senior team member . Maintain effective day-to-day communication with assigned vessels, technical managers, manufacturers, and service providers , escalating significant operational matters where appropriate . Provide technical support for vessel machinery and equipment, remotely and onboard as required , and escalate complex faults or urgent incidents to the appropriate senior team member . Carry out vessel inspections and prepare supporting reports, including for vetting procedures, identifying compliance issues and referring significant findings for senior review. Obtain and evaluate repair quotations, support discussions with suppliers, and make recommendations on cost-effective solutions that meet safety and quality standards, in accordance with delegated authority. Participate actively in the Emergency Response Team, contributing to crisis management and resolution. Assess the performance of Senior Engine and Deck Officers to ensure operational standards, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the fleet. Prepare regular reports on assigned vessels, tailored to reflect each vessel’s operational and technical condition. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vessel equipment and specifications and recommend process improvements. Support Fleet Manager Engineers with troubleshooting and innovation by providing updates and insights into specialised technical areas through continuous training and study. Candidates who are interested and suitable also have the option to apply for a Senior Technical Superintendent position. Those in a Senior Technical Superintendent should feel comfortable carrying out the above responsibilities to a high level, as well as having the following additional responsibilities: Providing operationally efficient and cost-effective solutions on more complex issues, including acting as an escalation point Strong knowledge on a broader range of vessel equipment and specifications Recommend and lead process improvements, including troubleshooting and innovation Person Specification S olid technical experience in a similar role or capacity; shore-based experience is required , and seafaring experience is desirable. Demonstrated strong technical knowledge of vessel machinery. Excellent time management skills, with the ability to adapt and reprioritise responsibilities as necessary. Inquisitive with proactive problem-solving skills and strong analytical abilities. Skilled in building collaborative and constructive working relationships. Strong command of written and spoken English. Open to constructive feedback and committed to ongoing professional development. IT literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
