Company: Marin General Hospital dba MarinHealth Medical Center Compensation Range: $56.78 - $70.60 Work Shift: 8 Hour (nights) (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0 Job Description Summary: It is the responsibility of the Surgical Technologist to function under the direct supervision of an RN while performing the scrub role on the intraoperative team and/or assisting with other patient care activities, and in accordance with department policies and procedures. Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions: Job Specifications: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program Completion of Certification program and exam preferred and required for Certified level Experience: Two years recent hospital or health care facility experience required Two years current Surgical Technologist experience preferred License and Certifications: Certified Surgical Tech Required at hire Basic Life Support Required at hire Prerequisite Skills: Knowledge of surgical techniques, anatomy and physiology Knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, and equipment and supplies Ability to work independently, interdependently and under supervision within department and hospital policies Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills required Data entry computer skills required Ability to function in an intermittently stressful environment Ability to teach the role of Surgical Technologist including surgical technique, equipment and instrumentation Primary Customer Served (Age Specific Criteria): (X) Infants: Birth up to 1 year (X) Toddlers: 1 up to 3 years (X) Preschool Children: 3 up to 6 years (X) School Age Children: 6 up to 12 years (X) Adolescents: 12 up to 18 years (X) Early Adults: 18 up to 45 years (X) Middle Adults: 45 up to 61 years (X) Late Adults: 61 up to 80 years (X) Late, Late Adults: 80 years and up Employees in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or service based on the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. Duties And Responsibilities: Essential (Not Modifiable) Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to aseptic technique principles and practices Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization principles and methods Assists with patient care plan and implementation, utilizing knowledge of surgical techniques, procedures and physician preference guidelines Demonstrates and monitors aseptic technique principle during preparation and maintenance of the sterile field, including scrubbed team members Validates supply and instrument sterility which includes checking package, wrap or container integrity, chemical indicators and expiration dates Utilizes cost effective practices through judicious supply use and selective opening and/or preparation of surgeon preferences Maintains accurate count of all sponges, needles, or other items to be counted before, during and at wound closure Performs all tasks required of the scrub including but not limited to skin preparation; positioning assistance; gowning and gloving of self and others; draping; sterile field preparation; counts; preparation and passing of instruments, supplies, equipment; safe handling/disposition of sharps; accurate measuring of fluids on the sterile field; applies sterile dressing; safe disposal of drapes, sponges, sharps, instruments and liquid waste Cares for specimens in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to specimen handling, processing and accountability Prepares instruments and equipment for terminal cleaning and transports on case cart to SPD Willingly shares knowledge and skills with all other team members Notifies SPD of malfunctioning or broken instruments or equipment Implement adult learning theories when teaching surgical technologist role Secondary (Modifiable) Attends educational and training seminars which further own knowledge and skill base Supports and participates in new programs and/or plans for change which maintains or improves quality patient care Other duties as assigned Accommodation: Qualified applicants with disabilities may request reasonable accommodation during the application process by contacting Human Resources at 415-925-7040 or .
