Tech Lead

Job description

MyEdSpace is an **education technology** platform that connects the best teachers on the planet with the students who need them the most - wherever they are, whatever their means. Backed by **$15m in Series A funding** from some of the leading investors in the space, we're ready to scale - and we want you to help us build and scale MyEdSpace as part of a collaborative and ambitious team. We're on a mission to **make a world-class education accessible to all.** We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of geography or socioeconomic background, to achieve their dreams and build a brighter future. If you’re motivated by solving meaningful problems and creating real impact through your work on a societal level and make a real impact on the world - **we’d love to hear from you!** **Job Title:** Tech Lead **Experience:** 8+ years commercial experience as a Software Engineer **Location**: Remote / Flexible (UK timezone overlap required) **Compensation**: Competitive + bonus upside **Your Impact at MyEdSpace** We’re looking for a **Tech Lead** who cares deeply about building great products and well-structured systems — whether your strengths lie in backend, frontend, or across the stack. You’ll guide technical decisions, help navigate trade-offs, and support engineers in delivering high-quality work. The role spans three key areas of responsibility: - **Technical leadership** — coding, pair programming, peer reviews, and driving software and architecture design. - **People management** — running 1:1s, supporting career progression, and ensuring a strong feedback loop. - **Product collaboration** — working closely with product and design to shape scope, prioritise effectively, and align on outcomes. We're building both the system and the team that will take us to the next stage — and you'll have real influence on how we scale, structure, and evolve our technology. **What You’ll Be Doing** - **Lead and mentor** a globally distributed team of engineers, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture. - **Set the bar for technical excellence**, promoting best practices across architecture, CI/CD, testing, and code quality. - **Drive a DevOps mindset** — engineers own what they build, from design to deployment and beyond. - **Architect and deliver** scalable, maintainable systems and features with measurable impact on learners. - **Collaborate with AI specialists** to integrate adaptive, personalized learning into our platform. - **Partner cross-functionally** with product, design, and data to shape roadmap, scope work, and align on outcomes. - **Continuously improve** how we build software — from delivery speed and reliability to team workflows and technical decision-making. **What We’re Looking For** - **Senior engineering experience** in product-led, fast-paced environments — ideally with time spent leading teams or large projects. - Strong **software architecture skills** — API-first, modular design, async comms, scaling patterns. - You work AI-first: LLMs and agentic tools are part of your daily workflow, not an experiment. - Experience across the stack — **deep backend expertise** and comfort navigating modern frontend frameworks (React.js preferred). - Fluency in **Agile and Lean methodologies**, you think in terms of shipping value in small increments, not running ceremonies. - Comfortable working in **Docker-based, cloud-native environments** (we use AWS). - A track record of shipping **user-facing products** that are performant, elegant, and thoughtfully engineered. - Excellent communication skills and **collaborative mindset** — you're comfortable working across disciplines and time zones. **Perks & Benefits** - Flexible working hours - Competitive compensation with significant upside - Access to the latest AI tools & productivity software - Global, mission-driven team with a strong sense of purpose ### **Our Hiring Process** We aim to keep the process efficient, transparent, and focused on mutual fit: 1. **CV Screening** We review your experience, technical foundation, and alignment with the role. 2. **Introductory Call with Hiring Manager** A 60 minute conversation to discuss your background, what you're looking for, and how we work. 3. **Coding Exercise** A take-home designed to assess practical skills — architecture, clean code, testing, and problem-solving. 4. **Technical Interview** A deep dive into your engineering approach — we’ll explore past projects, technical decisions, and systems thinking. 5. **Culture & Collaboration Interview** A final conversation to assess team fit, communication style, and alignment with our values and ways of working with the Product Manager of the squad **✨ Our values** **PUT INTEGRITY FIRST** Honesty matters. Tell the truth, and be straight-up. Be transparent and do the right thing. This builds respect and reliability for our students, families and team members. **KNOW YOUR COORDINATES** Understand where you are and where you want to get to. Know your strengths and acknowledge your gaps. Think from first principles. Question things, and never pretend to know what you don't. **RAISE THE BAR** Own it and get it done. Do better. Iterate quickly and seek feedback. Deliver real value. Be excellent and lift others up. Share learnings and help your teammates improve. **LOVE TO BE WRONG** Push boundaries. Be outside your comfort zone. Naturally you'll get some things wrong and that's okay. Embrace feedback. Learn from it and get closer to excellence. **WIN TOGETHER** To achieve our mission, we have to work together. We all have a role to play, so help each other get there. We’re stronger as a team so inspire, support and respect each other. 🙋 **Why you’ll love working here** We’re a team on a mission to transform education for the better. Joining MES means you’ll be part of something ambitious, fast-moving, and full of purpose. Here’s what you can expect: - The chance to make a real impact: your work directly shapes the future of education. - A fast-paced and high-growth environment where ideas move quickly and careers accelerate. - A collaborative, supportive culture: we’re head quartered in the UK, but we’re a global team with colleagues in 15+ countries, bringing a rich mix of perspectives and energy. We are committed to building a diverse team and strongly encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds. We believe diverse perspectives make us stronger and help us build a better product for students around the world.
