Job Purpose The purpose of this role is to manage and optimize underwriting services, ensuring technical excellence, process efficiency, and compliance with company and regulatory standards. The position oversees the assessment and approval of insurance applications within authorized limits, develops and implements underwriting guidelines, and drives process improvements, including automation and governance. The role is also responsible for managing and overseeing the underwriting service team, leading and developing team members through training and mentoring programs. Additionally, the position supports nationwide sales force training to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce avoidable pending cases. Job Responsibilities 1. Underwriting Services Management1.1 Technical Underwriting Oversee the underwriting process for insurance policies, ensuring that all applications are assessed accurately and efficiently within the standard turnaround time. Develop and implement underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with reinsurance guidelines and regulatory standards. Review and underwrite new and existing insurance proposals within authorized limits, ensuring sound risk assessment. Monitor team adherence to company policies and regulatory standards in all underwriting processes. 1.2 Process Strategy Development Identify and analyze bottlenecks within the underwriting process and implement strategies to mitigate them, particularly through Auto Underwriting and Straight Through Processing (STP). Collaborate with senior leadership to define long term objectives for underwriting operations, ensuring alignment with overall business strategy. 1.3 Governance in the Underwriting Process Establish and maintain a governance framework for underwriting operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines. Create and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for underwriting to ensure accountability and transparency. Facilitate regular governance meetings with stakeholders to review underwriting policies and address compliance or operational issues. 2. Team Leadership and Development Lead team development initiatives by organizing regular training sessions, workshops, and knowledge sharing opportunities to keep the team informed of best practices and industry trends. Foster a culture of continuous learning by managing, mentoring, and coaching underwriting teams to enhance quality and productivity. Deliver underwriting process training to the nationwide sales force to reduce avoidable pending cases. Job Accountability Performance Monitoring: Accountable for the productivity and accuracy of the underwriting team, ensuring that all processes meet organizational standards and turnaround time requirements. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with applicable insurance regulations and company policies across all underwriting activities and partnerships. Quality Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in underwriting processes to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. Team Leadership: Lead and motivate the team to achieve business objectives while providing guidance, support, and development opportunities. Other Responsibilities: Perform additional tasks assigned by senior management. Job Requirements Qualifications Medical Bachelor degree or Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other relevant degree Experience Minimum 5 years of experience in Underwriting Services Management. Knowledge and Skills Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail. Strong medical knowledge. Competencies in problem analysis, decision making, customer orientation, negotiation, presentation, influence, and empathy. Leadership Competencies Leadership Capability Model – Intermediate Level.
